Cordova Net Supply Hiring for Net Hanger Apprentice at Cordova, Alaska Full Time

Join our team building commercial salmon fishing nets in beautiful coastal Cordova, Alaska!

We are a hard working team of 3 or 4 people working to fulfill a critical niche in the fishing industry. The work is seasonal in nature. We have some work to get started on in February, then, as soon as the bulk of the fishing web arrives in mid-February (supply chain depending) we put our noses to the grindstone in order to get all the nets ready for the fishing season. It starts to slow down in July after the bulk of the fishing season is underway.

The primary job of the net hanger is to sit at a hanging bench and attach the web to the cork line and the lead line using hanging twine on a needle. The work is physical, very repetitive, and requires attention to detail in order for the nets to function properly. Other jobs will include putting the finishing touches on the nets, keeping supplies and finished nets organized, assisting fishermen with pickup, and some sales. Net hangers will often listen to music, audiobooks, or podcasts on headphones, or chat with their co-workers while they work. If everyone does their part it is a positive, low drama work environment. 

The ideal net hangers apprentice will be personally motivated and able to work independently. They will also not be afraid to ask for help or instruction when they are uncertain. As long as quality standards are upheld, net hangers can expect to see increases in pay in relation to increases in productivity. Motivated hangers are expected to make $20/hr or more within 3 to 6 months.
