Duties and Responsibilities: Hattie B Cooper Community Center is currently seeking to hire an EDUCATION COORDINATOR to start immediately at our school in Boston, MA. The EDUCATION COORDINATOR in Early Education provides instructional support and leadership to teachers and responsible for ensuring a developmentally appropriate program that ensures the healthy progression of socio-emotional, cognitive, and motor skills for children ages 0-12. Inspires, models, and sets a high standard of excellent practice by supporting assigned teachers and administrators in all aspects of classroom practices according to the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations, Boston Public UPK and NAEYC. The EDUCATION COORDINATOR’s role is to focus on improving the learning environments of all children by supporting early childhood educators in their efforts to maximize the effectiveness in their practice. This includes (but is not limited to) instructional practice, classroom culture, classroom management and family engagement. The EDUCATION COORDINATOR collaborates directly with teachers across all programs to support high-quality, developmentally appropriate instructional practices in early childhood classrooms. The EDUCATION COORDINATOR will also be responsible for coordinating special education services and supportive services in partnership with Boston Public Schools UPK program professionals.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Coach and mentor teachers by providing recommendations on instructional materials, teaching methods, and related equipment for the purpose of providing high quality services to children.
• Overseeing and supporting classroom functions and operations including daily reports, Teaching Strategies Gold, Portfolios, etc.

• Assess classroom quality and effectiveness using high quality, standardized assessment tools such as CLASS, Environment Rating Scales, etc. observation, and feedback to improve teaching practices and early learning environments.
• Guides teacher in developing classroom goals, to support developmentally appropriate practices, high quality learning environments, planning and assessment, instructional strategies, and reflective practices.
• Models developmentally appropriate activities and positive behavior management techniques during daily visits with children and staff in the classrooms.
• Facilitates Case Management meetings with teachers and other staff for the purpose of planning and coordinating services, writing and implementing IEP’s individualizing curriculum.

• Assist parents in accessing early intervention services, BPS ’scheduled screenings and referral of children found to have suspected disabilities to appropriate professionals including BPS special education and related serves for evaluation.
• Assist parents in completing all necessary referrals forms for comprehensive services and evaluation.
• Coordinate all special education services and supportive services in partnership with Boston Public schools UPK as indicated in the MOU Early childhood.
• Guide teachers in addressing the needs of children with challenging behavior. This includes the analysis and documentation of target behaviors, classroom observations, assessments and recommending appropriate early interventions referrals as appropriate.

• Prepare, design, and implement high quality professional development opportunities for staff and parents with varying educational levels in the early childhood education field
• As a coach to classroom teachers, the coach will spend a substantial portion of time collaborating with teachers in classrooms. The coach will meet with teachers to set goals, develop curriculum materials and strategies, ensure that the classroom environment is ready for learning, plan lessons, perform demonstration lessons, organize, deliver, and interpret assessments and data, and help teachers document student learning to make learning visible.

• Work to support the development, planning and implementation of an array of parent educational opportunities in keeping with family interests in their child’s education.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director

Education and Experience:

Qualifications:

• Certified as Lead Teacher by Massachusetts Department Early Childhood preferred.
• At least three to five years prior professional leadership experiences; previous coaching and/or curriculum writing experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to be flexible.
• Strong people skills including an ability to gain the respect and trust of fellow teachers.
• In-depth knowledge of the Content Standards for PreK of the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework.
• Understanding of scientifically based research in early childhood development, literacy, mathematics, social-emotional learning and approaches to play and learning, and knowledge of assessing student progress in all areas.
• Bilingual (especially Spanish speaking) and candidates from diverse backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $64,000.00 – $68,000.00 per year
