Converge is looking for a QA Tester to join our “Reality Capture” team, to help us digitise the construction industry, making it efficient, safe, and sustainable.

About the role

The Reality Capture team is responsible for our physical data collection platforms, including our Mesh and Signal ecosystems, internal and customer-facing tools for device management, and integrations with third party IoT platforms. To this end, the team develops hardware products, firmware for these products, and software applications to manage these systems and to ingest data.

We are looking for someone to take ownership of quality and testing of these complex systems. While we strongly believe that Engineers should test their own work, your role will be, in collaboration with the team, to plan, coordinate and execute (with Product Managers, Engineers and Designers who will assist you in testing their work) on User Acceptance Testing, Exploratory Testing, and the general pursuit of quality and an excellent customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate UAT testing of new products and services (including integration of hardware, firmware, mobile and cloud systems).
• Perform exploratory testing and bring a critical eye to the products we build. Help us identify defects and confusing UX flows.
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to raise and triage defects, and agree when new features are ready to ship.
• Collaborate with Agile teams on requirements for new projects and features. Help them build-in quality by advocating for testability of all product increments; by bringing your experience from exploratory testing and “breaking things” to bear on requirements and test plans; and through training teams on how to do their own QA.
• Curate UAT plans for key products and flows, so that you and others can easily perform regression testing.
• Identify areas where automation would help us improve testability (e.g. fixtures and scripts to create repeatable processes to assist with UAT and exploratory testing, or missing automated acceptance tests). We believe (per DORA research ) that automated tests should primarily be maintained by the Software and Firmware Engineers developing products, so we do not expect you to have development or automation experience. However, if you can and wish to contribute to our automation and test fixture scripts you are welcome to do so!

About you

You should have:

• Experience performing UAT and regression testing for either hardware or software products. (Experience with both hardware and software is ideal, but at least one is required.)
• Experience performing exploratory testing. You should be comfortable thinking as a user to identify not only bugs, but also sources of confusion.
• Experience creating, sharing and maintaining test plans.
• A curiosity for how things work and how to break things!
