We are currently seeking to fill a temporary Project Process Engineer Assistant position, that will be required to assist the head Engineer in a capital project that will upgrade the plant capacity by 15%. This is a 6-8 month temporary position, located in Amherst, NS.
Amherst is a community of 10,000 situated on the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick border, about two hours from Halifax, NS and less than an hour’s drive from Moncton, NB. The plant employs 50 and has an annual capacity of 127,000 tons of food grade and water-softening salt serving customers throughout the Maritimes, Quebec and the Eastern United States.
Summary: The person in this position is primarily responsible in assisting the Project and Process Engineer in their duties at the Amherst Plant. All of these duties will be as assigned by the Senior Engineer.
Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:

Project engineering and management.
Manage small to medium capital projects from development to implementation.
Develop strategies to implement equipment reliability through Reliable Asset Management (RAM) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
Manage Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) Activities
Demonstrate strong planning skills in relation to new projects
Developing Checklists, single point lessons, standard operating procedures for commissioning and startup of equipment
Develop equipment parts list and preventive and predictive maintenance schedules of project equipment basing on OEM recommendations
Maintain/Update Capital Expenditure Tracking Spreadsheets for monthly reporting purposes.
Ability to develop relationships with Maintenance, Boiler Evaporator and Operations employees and involves those individuals in project planning and communication.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The years of experience cited are all preferred, and may include experience as a student engineer.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, AutoCad
1-2 years’ experience in manufacturing.
Preferred:
Project management involving cross functional teams.
Experience leading equipment/process reliability programs.
Experience in continuous improvement initiatives.
P. Eng Certification
Previous experience in food processing or high speed packaging facility.
Previous experience in data analysis/management.
