Community Support Services, Inc Hiring for Education Director at Gaithersburg, MD Full Time

Community Support Services is seeking a qualified professional with a valid Maryland professional certificate as an elementary or secondary supervisor or principal, or a valid Maryland professional teaching certificate in elementary or secondary education and at least three years of teaching experience with students diagnosed with autism or other developmental disabilities.

CSS, a nonprofit organization in Gaithersburg, MD, provides innovative community based services to children with severe autism and related developmental disabilities. These unique services include special education in an accredited school, therapeutic after school program, weekend services, and behavioral support services. The focus of each child’s service plan is to develop functional life skills and prepare them for transition to adult life in the local community.

The Education Director position will oversee the operation of children’s services including:

• The Marcia D. Smith School, an innovative nonpublic special education program in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The Smith School provides highly structured and individualized services to 12-20 children with autism and other severe developmental disabilities between the ages of 11-21. The non-diploma program is ungraded and focuses on functional academic skills, life skills, job readiness and work skills, social/behavioral skills, and inclusion in the community. The curriculum focuses on the successful transition to adult services. The Smith School implements each student’s IEP, and provides nonpublic day and residential educational services.

• Autism waiver services, provides therapeutic intervention and intensive individual support services to 30 children daily in Montgomery County. Each child has a treatment plan which specifies the goals of the services, and supports children and families during the times when school is not in session. These highly structured, individualized wrap around services are community based and focus on building social skills and inclusion in community life.

CSS is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization which provides services and support to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities residing within Montgomery County, Maryland. CSS was founded in 1994 and began its mission by working collaboratively with individuals, families, and other lead agencies to design and implement new models of service. CSS provides residential and day support services, after-school programs for children, educational services through the Marcia D. Smith School, and personal support services for adults in their own homes, parents’ homes, and the community.

The Education Director will coordinate children’s services with other CSS programs, communicate with families, monitor rules and regulations regarding funding agencies, and navigate systems at the state and local levels that oversee children’s services and funding sources.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
