£24,686 per annum
Permanent, 37 hours per week, based in Preston
across Monday to Friday (No weekend work)

ABOUT US: *
Preston Vocational Centre (PVC) was created as a place where young people, struggling in mainstream education, can come to learn a trade from a hands on perspective. All of our teachers have come from a trade background. We are a subsidiary of Community Gateway, providing vocational training in trades along with other high quality support for young people and adults in Preston and further afield. We work with local schools, engaging young people and increasing employment prospects for learners.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This isn’t your standard teaching role. You’re going to be making a difference to young people, for whom mainstream education isn’t the most suitable option. By sharing your trade experience and encouraging young people to progress, you’ll be supporting communities and changing lives. You’ll help students complete their level 1 construction courses and move onto employment, further study or apprenticeships. Not only is this role hugely rewarding, but you’ll be supported by a fantastic staff team, made up of tradesman, many of whom either wanted to do something different with their skills or in some cases wanted to step back from the physical demands of the trade industry.
Although this is a teaching role, you do not need to be qualified to teach. We are looking for trade experience. We will fund your basic teaching qualification which you’ll do on the job during your first year. You’ll be teaching in a environment set up to simulate trade environments in the industry, rather than in traditional classrooms and you’ll find that the atmosphere at PVC has an ‘on the job’ feel.

ABOUT YOU: *

• Excellent plastering skills are crucial, so you’ll need a strong trade background in plastering.
• You’ll have worked in the plastering industry for at least three years, so you can give our students an insight into the world of work.
• You’ll have experience of assessing students’ skills against set criteria – this could have been gained on site, not necessarily in a formal training environment.
• You’ll be able to show us examples of how you have continued to learn new techniques and technologies in your trade area.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY: *
The closing date for this advert is Sunday 12th December 2021 at midnight with interviews expected to be held the following week. As part of the selection process you will complete a trade test to show us your super plastering skills, followed by a more formal interview – but don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch and we know interviews aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
