Community College of Philadelphia Hiring for Accounting Generalist at Pennsylvania, United States Full Time

General Description

The Accounting Generalist supports the Payroll department in
collecting and systematizing timesheets from all areas of the
College, and maintaining weekly payroll reports, to calculate,
audit and prepare payroll records for processing. This position is
accountable for the disbursement of payroll outputs (i.e. earnings,
taxes, benefits and deductions), preparation of monthly payroll
deduction remittances, and outflow reports and ensuring the
liability accounts and general ledger account balances.

Specific Responsibilities

• Coordinate the submission of timesheets and prepare the records
  data export to the College’s Banner payroll system, ensuring
  accuracy and timely processing.

• Maintain timesheets and payroll system; processing
  authorizations, taxes and deductions for employees into the
  system.

• Audit payroll output to identify discrepancies for resolution
  and balance pay/hours totals.

• Review pay information received from the College’s Human
  Resources and Financial Aid departments for accuracy and
  approvals.

• Review pay sheets and personnel action forms (c-forms) for
  processing.

• Process stop payments, voids, manual overrides and replacement
  checks, as needed.

• Monitor, audit and analyze various payroll liability accounts
  and reports.

• Review all employee/employer deductions and the associated
  accounts for accuracy.

• Ensure earnings are charged to the correct account cost
  center.

• Prepare third party reports for governmental agencies and
  vendors and submit to the Manager of Payroll’s authorization.

• Respond to various types of inquiries and correspondence;
  applying functional knowledge to analyze and respond to matters
  requiring comprehensive knowledge of department policies and
  procedures.

• Assist employees with trouble shooting their UKG Ready
  timesheet issues.

• Perform testing and coordinator maintenance upgrade of the UKG
  Ready system.

• Conduct monthly analysis of employee/employer deductions and
  the associated accounts.

• Generate “gross-to-net” reports as requested.

• Assist the department with special projects as needed.

• Maintain high level of security and confidentiality of records
  and documents on behalf of the department and College, and adhere
  to records retention policies. Deliver quality customer services to
  both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful
  and courteous manner.

• Assist other areas within the Controller’s Office.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required, and seven (7)
  years of work experience in a payroll, accounting and/or finance
  function required; or an Associates and five (5) years of work
  experience in a payroll, accounting and/or finance function
  required.

• Demonstrated understanding of basic accounting principles and
  auditing procedures is required.

• Demonstrated understanding of concepts related to payroll
  processing and tax calculations required.

• Demonstrated proficiency using MS Word and Excel required.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  required.

• Ability to perform multiple tasks with changing priorities
  required.

• Strong organizational and time management skills required.

• Ability to work as part of a team or individually
  required.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents and
  information required.

• Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for
  a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and
  staff of varying social economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic
  backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with related job experience preferred.
  Any and all degree(s) must be from a recognized institutional
  accreditor.

• Experience with UKG Ready (Kronos) time and attendance system
  highly desired.

• Previous experience utilizing an enterprise-wide system, such
  as Banner, preferred.
