Combyne Hiring for Assistant User Researcher (Student Intern, Remote) at Ottawa, ON Full Time

As the Assistant User Researcher, you have the opportunity to bring the voice of our users to the team and make a positive impact on the Combyne product. By assisting the Sr. User Researcher in conducting user research, documenting and organizing research findings, and communicating findings with the product team, you will be helping to foster product design and development decisions that are truly user-centric.

Operating in an Agile environment, you will work most closely with the Sr. User Research, UX Designer, and Product Manager. Day-to-day, you stay accountable and align with your team members through morning scrums.

You have an innate passion for organization and coordination, and will flex these muscles by working with the Sr. User Researcher to schedule interviews and usability testing sessions with users, take detailed notes during sessions, observe user interaction and behaviour during sessions, and organize findings into our user database on Airtable. Your eagerness to solve problems and uncover patterns will help you collaborate with the Sr. User Researcher after research rounds to identify themes and patterns in the findings. You will also have the opportunity to help present these findings to our product and development teams if you’re looking to practice your presentation skills.

At Combyne you will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with a variety of user research methods. This includes creating and conducting surveys, and regularly participating in over-the-phone and face-to-face interviews led by the Sr. User Researcher. From time to time, you will also spend days shadowing farmers and grain buyers with experienced team members. Day to day, you will be spending time conducting industry research by reading articles and reports on specific agricultural topics and reporting findings back to the team, as well as participating in open, collaborative brainstorming sessions that utilize research findings to come up with product solutions that solve user problems.

You will be working with team members who are experienced, and specialized in their skill set, with the opportunity to learn from each one. You will also get the chance to travel to meet users and conduct interviews with team members.

Please note that for this internship, we are looking to hire a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is currently a student in a Canadian college/university in order to be eligible for a grant.

Responsibilities:
Assist the Sr. User Researcher in coordinating and scheduling interviews and usability testing with participants

Take notes in interviews and usability testing

Documentation of research sessions by capturing, collecting and organizing research obtained from multiple sources and methods into Airtable

Collaboration with Sr UX Researcher to identify and present patterns/themes and findings

Conduct daily industry research on Combyne’s target audience, complimentary tools and competitors to relay to the Sr UX Researcher and Product Manager

Identify potential research participants with assistance from Sr UX Researcher and Data Analyst

Use of Zendesk to contact users and record all touch points

Use of Airtable to assist the Sr. User Research in:
Maintaining a database of users participating in research

Recording research/usability sessions

Tracking information requested by stakeholders (ie) tools used by our users as requested by biz dev

Helping to organize Airtable databases to be more useful for team members

Work in collaboration with CX to document cross-over interests for each team respectively in Airtable and Zendesk

Assist Sr. User research by utilizing Typeform to create and implement surveys

Travel with the Sr. User Researcher to Western Canada to immerse yourself in our users’ day-to-day and assist in conducting in-person interviews/observing interviewees

Qualifications:
Insatiable curiosity

Excellent interpersonal skills

Highly organized self-starter who enjoys a mix of independent work and team work

Some education or experience in research and analysis, user experience, project management, or a related field

Enjoys organizing data and conducting industry research

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent listener, facilitator, communicator and team player

Not afraid to voice your opinion and to explain the “why” behind your thinking

A willingness to travel ~1-2 times/month

Nice-to-Have:
Some sort of background in agriculture or farming communities, or an innate passion for small town coffee shops!

Experience with data analysis

Training or experience in User Research or User Experience Design

Familiarity with spreadsheets
