Summary
The Executive Director will be responsible for elevating Columbus Area Children’s Museum to a higher level of impact and service in the state of Nebraska. The Executive Director will lead the strategic planning process for Columbus Area Children’s Museum. This includes an assessment of programs and services that are currently being offered and assuring effective implementation of the Columbus Area Children’s Museum mission through its programs. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board President and Board of Directors (BOD). This position reports to the Board and is the primary spokesperson for the organization in public settings. The Executive Director also acts and advocates on behalf of Columbus Area Children’s Museum and its mission, strategy, and daily activities, and ensures its functions are appropriately and responsibly carried out. These activities include, but are not limited to, organizational operations, support programs, education, and advocacy. The Executive Director is responsible for the implementation of policies set by the Columbus Area Children’s Museum Board of Directors.
Essential Functions

· Provide administrative management of the corporation, providing direction and leadership toward the achievement of Columbus Area Children’s Museum’s mission, under the guidance of the Columbus Area Children’s Museum Board of Directors.
· Under the authority granted by the Columbus Area Children’s Museum Board of Directors, the Executive Director has full discretionary power to execute the by-laws, policies, and directives of the Board of Directors including, but not limited to, decision-making and direction of day-to-day operations, execution of Columbus Area Children’s Museum contracts, and personnel actions regarding program directors and other staff.
· Provide vision and leadership to the organization in implementing the strategic, as well as the day-to-day operations of the Columbus Area Children’s Museum
· Ensure that the programs and activities of Columbus Area Children’s Museum are consistent with and/ or promote the Mission of the organization.
· Monitor the effectiveness of the organization’s programs, directing adjustments as necessary.
· Observe for and research opportunities for program development to promote the growth of the organization.
· Develop and maintains working relationships with other agencies and organizations serving/working on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities to effect positive changes for persons with developmental disabilities, their families, and those who provide services to them.
· Work to ensure compliance with applicable state regulations and contract requirements, maintaining required certification.
· Provide the management team with the information, support, and direction needed to successfully accomplish their jobs.
· Make decisions to ensure the fiscal stability and, when possible, the fiscal growth of the organization.
· Administer contracts and grants.
· Effectively manages and supervises staff.
· Serve as an ex officio member of the Columbus Area Children’s Museum Board of Directors.
· Effectively keeps BOD informed and engages BOD on organizational changes (when not part of day-to-day operations)
· Represent Columbus Area Children’s Museum at events.
· Ensure that the Columbus Area Children’s Museum mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to stakeholders, other agencies, and the general public.
· Create, coordinate, and execute a comprehensive fundraising and development plan for Columbus Area Children’s Museum
· Secure funding for programs and capital needs.
· Develop relationships and partnerships with donors and funding entities.
· Manage grant applications for programs and ensure compliance to grant specifications.
· Develop the annual budget and operate within the approved budget.
· Responsible for recruitment, training, and evaluation of office personnel and volunteers.
· All other duties as assigned by the Columbus Area Children’s Museum Board of Directors.

Minimum Qualifications
· Able to legally work in the United States.
· Be able to pass Columbus Area Children’s Museum -required background checks
· BS/BA degree OR at least five years relevant experience providing formal or informal direct support to persons with developmental disabilities.
· Five years’ experience providing formal or informal direct support to persons with developmental disabilities.
· Five years’ experience in a supervisory role.
· Experience in managing a program or service.
· Experience in nonprofit administration.
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the Board, clients, staff, state agencies, families, and others.
· Good verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to articulate thoughts clearly.
· Knowledge of a variety of disabilities including developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, service delivery programs for persons with developmental disabilities, regulations governing the provision of developmental disabilities services in Nebraska, the structure of developmental disabilities services in Nebraska, and the Columbus Area Children’s Museum, and its programs and services.

This position must be able to:
·Physically be able to stand, walk, travel up to 50% of their time.
· Utilize computer systems in a sitting manner for up to 50% of their time.
·Must be able to read, write, speak, interact with all levels on a regular basis.

Schedule
· This position will require evening and weekend activities.
