Position: Software Implementation Intern

Location: Whitehorse, Yukon

Salary Range: $30

Travel: none required

Term: 5 month contract

This internship opportunity is presented as part of the “Digital Skills for Youth” program coordinated by the Independent Media Arts Alliance and funded by the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada

ColdAcre is a new start-up whose mission is to provide community-driven, reliable, fresh food in the North. We design, build, operate and distribute year-round growing solutions which have been deployed into Yukon, NWT and northern Manitoba. Our farm located in Whitehorse, Yukon produces leafy green, herbs and microgreens throughout the year, providing over 800 pounds of fresh food a week for our community! We are continually expanding and searching for a hard working, smart and motivated intern to join our team. Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:
This internship will play a key role in developing and implementing several of our software development projects including website and user interface programs, inventory management systems and customer service interfaces. As the software implementation intern, your creative input and vision will be valued, and experience expanded throughout the course of this 5-month internship. Work will involve a mixture of digital skill training, and hand on application of your emerging digital capabilities.

The software implementation intern will:

• Work with our CEO and external website developer to redesign our website to allow for more efficient purchasing through our WinterHarvest food subscription service
• Help design and implement a customizable user interface for our fabrication sales
• Work with our Farm Manager and Project Manager to develop or implement a cloud based inventory management system, and transition existing data and inventory systems to cloud based platforms
• Work with our Sales and Marketing manager to develop a social media strategy for the upcoming WinterHarvest season

Interns interested in this position will:

• Have an interest in hydroponic farming, including a willingness to learn new systems and technology
• Be Tech-savvy and adapt at creative problem solving
• Have some proficiency with online and cloud based software development and implementation, and communication via website and social media platforms
• Posses the ability to put themselves in the shoes of our customers and target market
• Be able to work with a diverse community of employees and customer across Northern communities, and have a strong interest in local food systems
• Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years at the start of the internship
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada (either a citizen, permanent resident of person with refugee status- work permits are not eligible)
• Have completed post secondary studies (Applicants residing in Yukon, NWT, or Nunavut are not required to meet this criterion)

Recommended skill set:

• Social media outreach experience
• Graphic design basics
• Interactive content design, and grasp of intuitive design
