An exciting opportunity to join a private training provider as head of finance. We’re a fast growing business in the UK and Internationally and looking for someone interested in taking that lead finance role to support our growth.

JOB PURPOSE

• To ensure the successful operational financial management of the Business

• To establish relationships and manage outsourced providers, with a view to bringing in-house

• The role is viewed as being key in enhancing Code Nation’s responsiveness in meeting the needs of learners, staff and partners and in achieving our corporate targets and quality standards. The successful candidate will join the leadership team of dedicated hardworking and committed staff and be able to work flexibly within the working week and year.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Code Nation is going through a significant systems re-fresh and implementation and finance systems and integration is next on the agenda

• Maintain and develop the Code Nations’ finance system and internal controls

• Be fully conversant with the content and application of Code Nations’ financial regulations and controls

• Reconcile grant funding to ensure all funds are received when expected

• Oversee invoicing of non-grant income through robust systems to ensure all income is fully collected

• Oversee credit control activity ensuring timely receipt of all monies due to the Code Nation

• Implement and Oversee the accurate operation of purchase ordering and invoicing system

• Process BACS supplier and payroll payments

• To ensure Code Nation complies with VAT, PAYE, NI, pensions and other relevant legislation

• Administer and manage the new finance system to include data cleansing, adding and removing users and liaising with the software suppliers

• Ensure that the daily cash and banking functions are completed correctly and promptly

• Oversee the accurate administration and recording of petty cash / expenses

• To ensure regular banking/accounting of all monies

• Lead on the production of monthly management accounts / cashflow and balance sheet reconciliations

• Lead on the production of the annual budget

• Lead on the recording and monitoring of all assets in the business

• Advise and train non finance staff responsible for ordering and approving expenditure and monitoring budgets

• Monitor and analyse internal financial reports against budget and forecast

• Organise and lead budget review meetings with budget holders

OTHER DUTIES

• Assist in the selection and implementation of new finance and forecasting system

• Other duties as determined by the CEO

• Actively champion the safeguarding of all learners

• Actively champion the promotion of Code Nation’s Equality and Diversity

• Contribute to maintaining MATRIX (IAG) Standard

• Assist in working towards achieving an Ofsted Grade 1

• Meet the minimum requirements of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

• A sound knowledge of current accounting practice

• In depth knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Excel

DESIRABLE

• Knowledge of Local Authority accounting procedures and financial regulations

• Knowledge of VAT

• Knowledge of payroll

SKILLS & ABILITIES

ESSENTIAL

• The ability to communicate complex information both verbally and in writing

• The ability to explain finance concepts to non finance colleagues

• Highly numerate and able to work with a minimum of supervision

• Ability to identify work priorities and manage own workload to meet deadlines whilst ensuring the lower priority work is kept up to date

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

• Experience working in the education or private training sector

• Experience of working in a team in a busy office environment

• Experience of working with all levels of internal staff and external agencies
