Job Description
Card Lending Services (CLS) provides judgmental, unsecured credit card underwriting for the Card Services line of business within our Consumer & Community Banking (CCB) division. CLS’ primary underwriting functions include new account acquisition, credit line increases and portfolio risk reviews (e.g., line decreases/account closures) for consumers and businesses. The Corporate Liability team performs all underwriting for businesses with $250K+ in credit exposure by completing an in-depth analysis of business financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and statements of cash flow.
The Corporate Liability underwriting due diligence involves applying four of the 5 Cs of credit (character; capital; capacity; condition and collateral) using tools that include internet searches on the borrower(s); various 3rd party business/consumer trade/credit reports; business/personal financial statement analysis and the overall JPMC bank relationship. A complete underwriting with a recommendation/final decision routinely involves discussions with the customer(s) (JPMC bank Relationship Manager or the applicant) to better understand the fiscal changes; unfavorable trade/credit/public filings or clarity of the card structure to ensure approved card requests are viable card assets.
Is involved in originating or soliciting a mortgage or loan through direct interaction with the customer, or is making the lending or underwriting decision for a mortgage or loan on behalf of the firm, or is soliciting or representing an owner in discussions with a bank regarding a mortgage in the foreclosure process (e.g., stopping or postponing a foreclosure or obtaining an extension to pay a mortgage).

Primary responsibilities include review and underwriting existing commercial credit requests, with a strong focus on credit quality and risk assessment. Portfolio management responsibilities include proactive identification of credit trends and weaknesses, completion of periodic and annual credit reviews and initiating collections activity in connection with overall business relationship management. Individuals in this position will be have prior experience working with commercial credit applications, along with proven verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The ability to interface well and build strong working relationships with internal partners such as Business Bankers, Business Development and Risk Policy is another important component of the role.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Qualifications
· Minimum 3 years commercial credit lending experience; credit card lending experience a plus
· Successful completion of a major corporate bank commercial training program (or the equivalent corporate banking/corporate finance or accounting experience)
· Proven ability to spread business financial statements/tax returns, perform ratio analysis, complete risk assessment and make sound credit decisions and recommendations via written and verbal presentations
· Proficiency in credit/lending transactions and analytical skill sufficient to enable independent underwriting of commercial requests for lines of moderate to large size and complexity with limited guidance required from immediate manager
· Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline (Accounting, Finance, etc.)
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Experience in supporting recommendations when challenged and in negotiating counteroffers, where appropriate
· Proven ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers and with various levels of management
· Ability to build strong working relationships with internal partners such as Business Bankers, Marketing and Risk Policy teams
· Flexibility in adapting to changing volumes and areas of focus
