As the Welder you will:
Lay out and fabricate component parts from start of project through to completion.
Operate all tools related to and perform the daily fabricating and repairing of all types of metal work.
Perform welding, cutting shearing, forming and other tasks related to all types of metal work.
Assist in preparing material estimates for projects and stock.
Assist in the manufacture of patterns, tools and jigs, as required.
Follow current safety and good housekeeping practices.
Perform other duties consistent with the classification, as assigned.
Attend work related courses, as required.
Perform other related duties consistent with the classification, as required/assigned.
Your education and qualifications include:
Grade 10 education or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Demonstrated proficiency with Manual arc, oxy-acetylene, MIG and TIG, welding units.
Demonstrated proficiency in welding ferrous and non- ferrous materials.
Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints and complete lay-out and fabrication work.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts (including suppliers), contractors and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the position’s area of work.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
A valid High Pressure Vessel Welding certificate would be considered an asset.
A valid Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification for supervisory and or in welding, inspections would be considered an asset.
Conditions of employment:
The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful applicant, at their expense.
Must possess and maintain a valid Inter-provincial Journeyman Welding Certificate with Red Seal.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties and responsibilities of the position including, but not limited to, erecting and working on ladders and scaffolds, and working at heights or in confined spaces, both indoors and outside in varying weather conditions (in the shop and mobile service truck).
Must successfully pass a respirator mask fit test (requires employee to be clean shaven at work) and complete confined space training.
