City of Regina Hiring for Technologist at Regina, SK Full Time

The Technologist will perform complex technical work including database management; construction, and preservation; facility and systems operation; and environmental engineering. The position provides advanced advice regarding industry best practices related to infrastructure/sewer/water/stormwater, design, construction planning, operation, preservation, maintenance, testing, management and performance. This position typically reports to a Technologist II.

Typical duties include:

• Initiate, develop, maintain and coordinate databases related to infrastructure planning, asset management, operations and preservation, and field inspection.
• Monitor, manage and conduct data and sample collection programs such as the drinking water sampling and corrosion control sampling program and composting sites.
• Assist with field work and surveys.
• Compile statistical data and information for reporting purposes.
• Be able to interpret results, produce reports/outputs and make recommendations for infrastructure/sewer/water/stormwater, design, construction, operation, maintenance and management programs, and environmental engineering.
• Research, co-ordinate and assemble information and prepare technical reports specifically on program development topics such as inflow and infiltration.
• Research and evaluate the application of new technologies and industry best practices related to infrastructure/facility planning, engineering, design, construction, asset management and testing services.
• Co-ordinate with colleagues to effectively and efficiently implement programs.
• Perform calculations and queries in a spreadsheet and database environments.
• Assist with mail deliveries for upcoming and outgoing water & sewer construction work
• Tactfully and adequately respond to concerns and inquiries from the general public, City Council and other branches/departments/divisions.
• Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupation Health and Safety Manual.

Candidates will be screened on the following criteria:

• The knowledge, abilities and skills are obtained through completion of a two (2) year diploma in Civil, Environmental and/or Water Resources Engineering Technology.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply basic analysis and statistics.
• Knowledge of water & sewer infrastructure
• Demonstrated skills working both independently and as a member of a team on a complex task.
• Skills to deal with the public and difficult situations effectively.
• Intermediate computer skills to create tables and forms, create formulas, create queries and reports and import/export data from various sources and formats
• Beginner level skills with GIS and CAD skills to display data including symbology, create, edit and query data, modify drawings, relate data, and prepare designs using software such as Arc GIS.
• Skills to manage time and perform tasks in a well-organized manner.
• Skills to express ideas effectively, in oral and written form.
• Skills to establish and maintain effective working relations and a respectful work environment.

Working/Other Conditions:

• Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have a reliable vehicle available for work usage (a travel allowance is provided).
• Must register and maintain registration under Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT).
• Will be required to enter citizens homes/basements which could include confined spaces, damp conditions, contact with pets.
• Work may include variable hours which could include early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
