The City of Pontiac is seeking a highly responsible and organized person to join the City’s Community Development Department. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual that wants to assist in making Pontiac a great place to live and do business, while growing their own career.
Under the supervision of the Community Development Director, this position provides a variety of functions. The Community Development Technician will directly assist with the Community Development Director to support the Building Division, Planning & Zoning Division, Economic Development Division and Code Enforcement Division.
A successful candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public during challenging situations, have excellent communication skills, be well organized, and bring fresh ideas to the team. General knowledge of community development, planning & zoning, economic development and building safety is helpful.
This is a hands-on position, and the employee must maintain regular attendance. The candidate must have the ability to multi-task, supervise multiple projects, and meet deadlines. This is an mid-level position and will provide support to the front counter staff.

Examples Of Duties And Responsibilities
Gather and maintain data in computer databases and produce statistical s.
Research information, provide recommendations, and assist in the development or revision of program procedures and guidelines.
Receive and screen visitors and telephone calls and direct the caller to the proper person or personally handle the call.
Operate standard office equipment.
Assist with the development of bid requirements.
Complete research and compile s from the BS&A system.
Other duties as assigned in response to a rapidly changing environment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research.
Experience working in the BS&A program – specifically the building, treasury, miscellaneous receivables and accounts payable modules.
Ability to maintain clerical records and to prepare accurate s and tabulations from such records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with fellow employees, outside agency personnel, and the general public.
Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Valid Michigan Driver’s License or the ability to obtain at time of hire.
Bilingual Spanish speaking individual is preferred.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience working in economic development, planning & zoning, building safety or code enforcement.
