About the Opportunity

As the Financial Accountant you will assist the Finance Manager in leading and managing the team’s financial direction to meet community expectations, deliver organisational key performance indicators and maintain financial accountabilities in line with the Community Plan. Your leadership skills will lead a strong, cohesive and effective team that fosters a culture of continuous improvement with a key focus on accountabilities, skills, agility, capabilities and providing an exceptional customer’s experience.

Working with the Finance Manager, the focus will be on the financial activities including financial management and reporting for the current and future sustainability of the business, working through organisational advancement, and driving a contemporary sustainable financial and service delivery focused agenda. Ensuring compliance with legal and policy requirements and identifying emerging trends contribute to other elements of the role.

Working with the Finance Manager the role is responsible for the operations and direction of a range of finance functions that contribute to the delivery of the City of Palmerston Community Plan including:

• Councils Monthly Financial Reports
• Council’s Budget Reviews
• Council’s Annual Budget and Long-Term Financial Plan
• Council’s Asset Register
• General Purpose Financial Statements
• Accounts Receivable and Rates ensuring the integrity of Council’s systems and compliance with policy and legislation.

The role will promote and exemplify Council’s vision to meet community expectations, deliver organisational key performance indicators and maintain accountabilities in line with the Community Plan and customer ethos of “people are at the centre of all we do and deliver”.

We are looking for a team leader with high level energy, enthusiasm, flexibility and determination to lead an enthusiastic and newly created team. With Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Business coupled with a minimum of 3 years finance experience, the successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to maintain professional working relationships exemplifying our Customer Charter.
