We’re looking for an Engineering Tech who can take ownership of street and road projects from initial survey to final inspection.

You’ll be working with a cooperative, highly skilled team with extensive experience working on projects in our community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists in carrying out engineering and inspection duties for public improvement projects including, but not limited to the following :
• Assists with preparing the feasibility studies and required s
• Assists with topographical, construction, and as-built surveying in connection with public improvement projects
• Provides staff support for neighborhood meetings
• Assists with project design by performing engineering work and drafting of plans
• Assists with the preparing the construction plans and specifications
• Assists with site inspection to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, established policy, accepted practice, and permit conditions
• Assists with preparing the assessment roll
• Assists with coordinating and negotiating the acquisition of easements and right of way
• Interprets municipal engineering records and data for other city staff and customers
• Assists in conducting reviews of engineering drawings for private developments and private improvement projects.
• Assists in conducting reviews, completing drawings, and performing calculations for City led projects initiated by the Public Works Department or any other City of Maplewood department as requested.
• Provides access to resources addressing staff’s and customer’s municipal engineering or utility concerns.
• Interprets municipal engineering records and data for other city staff and customers.
• Performs topographical, construction, and as-built surveying in connection with public improvement projects and City led projects.
• Assists in preparing s for council meetings, hearings, and neighborhood meetings.
• Collects and archives data as mandated by state law and in accordance with established practices in the municipal sector.
• Performs calculations and compilations of data.
• Issues permits and fees. Prepares invoices, easements, developer agreements, and project payments for street improvement projects.
• Acts as liaison with contractors, engineers, developers, utilities, and other governmental agencies on public improvement projects, private developments, private improvement projects, and City lead projects.
• Operates and maintains technical and non-technical equipment to support the division’s needs and activities.
• Maintains MnDot certifications and training as necessary to meet the division’s needs and activities.
• Develops or enhances skills to maintain effective level of operation.
• Communicates verbally or through written correspondence with residents, businesses and property owners to explain projects, provide information, and resolve concerns and conflicts.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have completed a two-year civil engineering technician program (or equivalent) at a technical college OR have four years of street and / or utility construction and maintenance experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license or equivalent out-of-state license.

Preferred Qualifications

Working skill in using AutoCad Civil 3D.

Senior Engineering Technician

Minimum Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible experience as an Engineering Technician, including experience resolving property-owner concerns on construction projects, or equivalent training and experience required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license or equivalent out-of-state license.

Preferred Qualifications

Considerable skill in using AutoCAD Civil 3D
