Our Financial Services team is looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to fill a permanent position of Senior Accountant – Systems. You will improve organisational effectiveness and the efficiency of City systems, provide a high-quality customer service to all stakeholders and lead the accountability, integrity and continuous improvement of finance reporting, processes and controls.

You will contribute towards a culture of continuous improvement by:

• Providing specialist advice on financial matters to management and staff.
• Dealing promptly, empathetically and efficiently with requests for information and assistance.
• Analysing the City’s overall performance and trends and providing recommendations on how best to improve performance.
• Developing and providing on-going maintenance of financial modelling.
• Working effectively with auditors, government and other agencies and finance industry representatives.
• Forecasting cash flows and other key financial outcomes and providing recommendations on how best to achieve targets.
• Developing processes to check for coding inconsistencies and errors in general, project costing and work order ledgers.
• Managing and maintaining the inventory and plant costing systems.
• Ensuring systems linkages are transferring all information and that data balances with general ledger.
• Reconciling subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
• Aiding financial aspects of various modules in the OneCouncil system
• Providing reports on system performance and recommendations for improvement and financial reports when required.
• Ensuring accounting functions meet the City’s financial services requirements.
• Managing forward planning and forecasting.

What you will bring to the team

To be successful you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Commerce
• Completion or significantly progressed completion of CA or CPA qualification
• National Police Clearance
• Previous experience of accounting and management in a medium/large organisation
• Good report writing and presentation skills
• Understanding of business systems
• High level competence in financial management and accounting
• Excellent computer literacy
• Ability to interpret complex financial data
• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong business acumen
• Commitment to continuous improvement
• Planning and organisation skills
• Communication/interpersonal skills
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Sound research skills

The finer details

This fulltime permanent position attracts a Level 7 remuneration of $93,254 – $99,088 gross per annum dependent on qualifications and experience and a wide range of benefits to reward your contribution.
