City of Greater Geelong Hiring for Social Equity Officer at Geelong, Victoria, Australia Full Time

In this role, you will be an important part of the Community Experience team supporting community relationships, capacity building, and empowerment developing the City’s understanding of community needs. You will be responsible for facilitating and developing policies as well as delivering strategies or projects that contribute to outcomes building on individual and community strengths, giving priority to harm minimisation, early intervention and prevention activities which augment collaborative partnerships, joined-up services and whole of government(s) solutions based on evidence informed responses that lead to sustainability through the application of social justice and community development principles .

Classification: Band 6 ($90,263 – $97,365)

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the development and implementation of specific policies and programs that promote social equity and social justice within the community .
• Undertaking various activities to identify, translate and communicate the needs of the community to enhance the City’s responses to meet the community needs.
• Developing action plans responding to community needs and aspirations to be delivered with external partners and in collaboration with internal departments.
• Assisting the City in developing, facilitating, and implementing the social equity framework that responds to the needs of the community, which are evidence based, utilising data and insights, community development tools and methodologies, based on people’s experiences.
• Utilising data and design our community development activities in a way that will best meet needs and sustain outcomes for different population and needs-based groups.
• Identifying the need to develop resources and collateral which foster community participation and education and work with relevant internal departments.
• Conducting community research, collect relevant data, and present findings in various formats (presentations, s) to communicate the needs of the community and help inform decision-making.
• Enhancing relationships and partnerships with community organisations, stakeholders, and local networks to enable the City to provide support to the community on various social and health equity priorities.
• Facilitating new and innovative processes to build upon community strengths and assets, identify priority community issues and develop whole off community responses.

About You

To be successful in this role you will be passionate about inclusivity and diversity as well as have demonstrated experience and success collaborating with communities experiencing complex social, health and / or economic issues .

Essential Experience:

• Tertiary qualifications in the Social or Health Sciences, Community Development, or a related field, which focus on community development, social inclusion, health promotion or substantial relevant experience in a similar field.
• Understanding of the principles and functions of advocacy, research, policy development, capacity building, systems thinking customer experience and community development outcomes.
• Experience in community consultation and engagement as well as conducting research and gathering, analysing, and ing on demographic profile data and projections of community cohorts.
• Demonstrated ability and keen interest to establish positive relationships with a wide range of key community stakeholders and external agencies.
• Advanced conceptual skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills required to engage and provide information to a variety of audiences.
• Demonstrated experience in local government, community development or health promotion practice, a sound knowledge of social justice principles, social equity, cultural safety, and awareness strategies.
• Demonstrated understanding of harm minimisation as a framework and strategic approach.
• Satisfactory Working with Children Check.
