About your new branch

The Corporate Finance Branch provides leadership to the organisation to achieve effective financial management, long-term financial sustainability and financial compliance. Corporate services include financial accounting, management accounting and financial development.

About your new role

Responsible, under the direction of the Corporate Asset Accountant and the Asset Coordination Officer, for the identification, capture, creation, maintenance and disposal of non-current assets within Council’s Financial Asset Register in accordance with Council’s Non Current Asset Accounting Policy. The position is also responsible for reconciliation with relevant Asset Management Registers and General Ledger accounts along with investigation into anomalies by interrogation of relevant systems and data sources impacting and impacted by the financial asset process.

• Extract and analyse capital expenditure from Council’s costing system to determine accurate financial asset treatment within required timeframes and ensure costs are capitalised in accordance with Council’s Non Current Asset Accounting Policy.
• Interrogate and analyse relevant revenue accounts within the General Ledger to ensure financial treatment of receipts associated with asset disposals and asset trades.
• Provide input to the development of asset accounting policies, procedures and controls to ensure compliance and understanding.
• Liaise with relevant stakeholders as required in order to obtain information as required.
• Perform reconciliations as required between working spreadsheets and relevant system data.
• Under the general guidance of the Asset Coordination Officer, update and maintain data within the financial asset register.
• Perform ad hoc processing or compilation of asset-related data as and when required by the Asset Coordination Officer or the Corporate Asset Accountant.
• Raise relevant journals within the General Ledger under the guidance of the Asset Coordination Officer.
• Assist with documentation of procedures of the position as and when required by the Asset Coordination Officer or the Corporate Asset Accountant.

What you bring to your new role

• Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in a team environment, exhibiting open and honest communication to foster good relationships with other team members and stakeholders.
• Intermediate/advanced MS Excel skills with particular emphasis on formulas, sorting and filtering.
• Proven investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently to effectively prioritise a pre-allocated workload with limited supervision to achieve required outcomes.
• Attentive to detail whilst exercising regard for holistic goals and requirements.
• Ability to support a philosophy of continuous improvement.
• Ability to understand and apply the prescriptions of financial and asset related policies.
