TITLE: LIBRARIAN AND PROGRAMING COORDINATOR
DEPARTMENT: LIBRARY
SUPERVISED BY: LIBRARY DIRECTOR

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for overseeing the designing, scheduling, and conducting of programing for all ages. Answering phone calls asking a multitude of library questions. Provides reference services for patrons, and assisting with computer usage and problems, and for cataloging all materials by performing the following duties.

 Aids patrons with questions, places holds, issues library cards, provides public computer help, helps with faxing, answers phone, solves problems.
 Catalogs all materials, including books, AV materials, and magazines, and handles all problems relating to cataloging.
 Opens and closes the library, unlocks the front door and turns on computers and lights.
 Walks around the library and performs closing duties, checks for and reminds patrons of closing time, ensures that lights are off, checks to make sure bathroom lights are off, locks the front doors.
 Completes projects designated by the director.
 Assists with updating the Library’s website and maintaining the Library’s calendar, including room reservations.
 Plans programs for all ages, reaches out to performers, negotiates price, confirms date, and adds all programs to calendar each month. This may include planning crafts for programs for all ages.
 Helps write PR for library programs if needed.
 Creates displays for all age levels throughout library.
 May run one of the library Book Clubs – reads selected book and prepares questions.

 Performs outreach with schools, goes to conferences, and prepares book boxes for school(s).
 Responsible for ensuring that reminder calls are made for programs.
 Ensures that programs are properly staffed and conducted and that payment is provided for services rendered.
 Keeps people, both staff and patrons, up to date on happenings in the library.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft
Word, Microsoft Excel, Web Design, Internet Explorer, library databases, and preferably has familiarity with Sirsi Workflows or another ILS.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) degree; and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a Library of Michigan certification Level 2
