Position Summary:

The City is a major player in South Florida’s academic, marine and tourism industries and filled with culture. The City of Dania Beach is seeking qualified candidates for Assistant Finance Director. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral member of the City’s leadership team. The position reports directly to the Finance Director and has wide-ranging responsibilities including direct oversight of all accounting, payroll, procurement, payables, grants and capital projects, interpretation and implementation of new accounting standards, and assists the director with preparation of the budget, financial statements.

Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Oversee all accounting activity including internal controls over the City’s automated financial disbursement records

• Assists in the preparation of budget documents for the City Manager and City Commission.
• Provides technical information and assistance to other accounting personnel and other City staff throughout the City.
• Manage Information Technology projects and coordinate effective end-user training to ensure successful implementations.
• Works on projects as assigned by the Finance Director and serves as the Acting Director during the director’s absence.

Qualifications
What’s required: * (Minimum Requirements)*

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Five years experience in the management and administration of multiple budgets and accounting systems

What’s preferred: (Desired Requirements)

• Master’s degree in Public Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
• Five years government/public sector experience in the management and administration of multiple budgets and accounting systems, two years of which includes supervision of direct reports.
• Certified Public Account (CPA) or CGFO (Certified Government Finance Officers) certification
• Significant experience using and administering complex ERP systems
