Christianity Today Hiring for Finance Director Job at Remote Full Time

Christianity Today is looking for an experienced Finance Director to lead our Financial Operations team. In this role, you will work closely with a small team of accounting and finance professionals directing our general accounting, payroll, cash management, accounts payable & receivable, taxes, fundraising processes, and our annual audit. This individual will also direct the development of annual budget and periodic reforecasts including the development & implementation of strategies for budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and identifying & explaining variances including recommendations for improvement.

As Finance Director, you will lead the team in accurate and timely financial reporting; ensuring acceptable levels on internal control; efficient and consistent billing processing, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Your primary goal will be to ensure sound fiscal management, an effective team, and efficient and stable financial operations so – with God’s provision – our ministry can continue pursue its mission and vision to elevate the Church and inspire the world.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Financial Management (80%)

• Lead the forecasting process with responsibility for a timely and accurate annual budget, periodic reforecasts, and monthly financial summary reports.
• Coordinate activities, schedules, and reports related to the annual audit process.
• Prepare and process annual IRS tax forms (990, 990T, 1099, 1042).
• Oversee the sales tax collection / payment process reconciling with tax software.
• Work through the general insurance process and health insurance budget/renewal with HR.
• Monitor expenditures from fundraising and grant-funded activities, ensuring compliance with contract provisions and government regulations.
• Confirm donations recorded in general ledger and oversee issuance of donor receipts as needed.

Supervision of Payroll & Billing (20%)

• Develop and maintain annual payroll expense budget, confirming payroll is processed every two weeks.
• Direct all activities related to the billing process, including determination of related and unrelated business income, general ledger activity and collections.
• Oversee process around invoices for payment and post accounts payable journals to the general ledger.
• Review internal procedures (timesheets, payment requests, etc.) with an eye for creating more user-friendly and efficient processes.

Requirements

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance (or substantial related work experience in the responsibilities of this position)
• 5+ years’ work experience in finance, payroll, and general accounting; non-profit finance experience a plus

Knowledge/Skills

• Strong financial acumen and general accounting knowledge
• Excellent time management, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines
• Ability to recognize opportunities to simplify processes and create efficiencies
• Overall proficiency with accounting software – cloud-based accounting software or Blackbaud software experience a plus
• Demonstrated proficiency in Excel

Job Type: Full-time
