About Our Family Services: Child Care Resource & Referral
Building on families’ strengths, our services embody a research-based, two-generation approach that provides comprehensive and individualized support and connection. Resource and Referral (R&R) is the entry point to these services for many families. R&R services, which range from self-directed to intensive support, help families navigate the search for care. Thousands of families use our online Child Care Finder, which is San Francisco’s only searchable database of licensed programs.
Position Summary
Education and Outreach Specialists helps and build relationships with families to connect them to resources and opportunities to build their parenting confidence and skills. For families who need more intensive support, we take a case-management approach in order to remove barriers and advocate for them to secure quality care. Through the specialized roles within the Resource and Referral team, we are able to leverage our collective experiences in child development, adult learning, and case management supports.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
One-on-One Supports to Families
Works one-one-one with families to provide information and referrals on choosing childcare.
Assists eligible families with applying for and securing a subsidized child care placements.
Connects families to additional services, both at Children’s Council and in the community.
Participates in rotation for walk-in services in R&R room and at the county Human Services Agency.
Tracks family outcomes and regularly reflects on ways to improve services.
Education and Outreach
In consultation with Children’s Council Outreach & Partnerships Manager, you will build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, social service agencies and employers.
Educates parents and stakeholder groups about child care and our services in a range of settings.
With the support of the Outreach & Partnerships Manager, you will help identify opportunities to participate in tabling in community and outreach events.
In partnership with Advancement team, you will assist with the production, translation and updating of outreach materials
Additional duties as assigned, which may include individualized assignments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of professional work experience, preferably in a non-profit setting
Must have experience working with diverse, low-income communities
Must have excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills
Strong knowledge and/or experience with child development or child care programs
Experience providing responsive one-to-one client support
Ability to work evenings and weekends and a willingness to travel to an offsite location
Proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs
A background clearance is required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in an accurate and timely fashion
Ability to sit, work at a desk, or use a phone for extended periods
Ability to speak clearly, in audible tones so that others may understand you over the telephone.
Manual dexterity to use a telephone, computer or any other office equipment
Physical agility to bend, stoop, walk, and reach overhead
