Master’s degree in library science; three (3) years of experience in a public library; one year of experience of Library supervisory or lead capacity (may include the supervision of volunteers); or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess or be able to obtain a Librarian’s Professional Certificate by the State of Virginia. Experience in managing a library branch preferred but not required. A successful candidate should possess: Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to help people learn. Knowledge of and experience in applying the basic skills of management in a large organization. Demonstrated project management and program development experience to include translating a learned skill/applying innovative ideas into practice. Demonstrated ability to work in a large, team-based collaborative environment and get quantifiable results. Ability to develop strong community relationships and partnerships. Considerable knowledge of current principles and practices of library science. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to include making presentations to large groups; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other technologies using wide-ranging experience with technology, advanced search skills, and using social media applications. Ability to supervise staff and to understand and implement the Chesterfield County Public Library strategic approach. Experience in managing and communicating change. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in library office, library locations and other professional settings; extensive use of computers and devices required. Light to medium, occasionally heavy, physical requirements which may include, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling crouching, keyboarding, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal and reading; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

CCPL currently has an opportunity for a full-time Assistant Branch Manager at our Ettrick-Matoaca Library. Be an integral part of a vibrant library system moving forward to create new, outcome-driven programs and services for the Chesterfield community. Assist in supervising the operations and activities at Ettrick-Matoaca Library, a branch of Chesterfield County Public Library. Supervise Makers’ Space activities as necessary. Recommend and assist in the implementation, application and monitoring of library policies, procedures, goals and objectives; participate on system-wide teams to plan and develop innovative library programming; provide engaging learning experience for library customers; assist in supervising, training and evaluating library professionals and other staff; use data-driven decisions to form program and service recommendations. Perform all duties of a professional librarian and model behaviors for staff. Perform other work as required.
