Chesapeake College Hiring for Marine & Mechanical Trades Instructor/Coordinator Job at Wye Mills, MD Full Time

Reports to the Director of Skilled Trades. Responsible for conceiving, designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the learning activities of students in the Marine Trades and Mechanical Trades program(s). Performs other duties as assigned in the Faculty/Staff Manual or by immediate or appropriate supervisor. Complies with applicable policies in the Faculty/Staff Manual. Assists in the marketing of and recruitment for these programs as well as the hiring, training and evaluating of adjunct faculty members in these disciplines.

• Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 pounds.
• The worker will be subject to dust, noise, fumes, and odors.
• The workers will be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions.
• The physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, sitting and feeling.
• Safety equipment will be provided where needed and required to be worn or used.

Instruction

• Shall be assigned a regular teaching workload (generally 18 load hours per year or the equivalent) as determined by supervisor
• Teach as required evening, weekend, summer, online, hybrid, and dual credit classes as needed either on-campus or at various offsite locations.
• Ensure implementation of the curriculum in the classroom, college, and labs
• Update annually all program course materials, textbooks, and other teaching aids
• Prepare and update Core Courses of Study, to include measurable objectives
• Advise students in their academic/career programs
• Schedule and keep posted office hours
• Maintain academic standards in keeping with the policies of the college, as specified in the Faculty/Staff Manual

Program Direction

• Conduct regular reviews and evaluation of the Marine & Mechanical Trades curricula and related courses
• Identify and develop non-Marine Mechanical courses in automotive, diesel, electric etc.
• Identify existing or propose new courses that can crossover to other trades training programs (ie, composite fabrication, fiberglass repair, carpentry, etc,)
• Administer the educational program(s) of the unit, assuring compliance with relevant trades / accreditation bodies and industry standards and requirements as applicable
• Ensure availability of appropriate equipment, materials, and other resources needed for teaching
• Collaborate with Student Success to recruit and retain students
• Recruit, hire, and monitor faculty and hourly temporary instructors
• Provide input to supervisor for review/ evaluation of adjunct faculty
• Consult with supervisor regarding program budget
• Assure program assessment and reporting, including implementation of actions plans

College & Community Service

• Develop, maintain, comply with, and periodically review written agreements with cooperating agencies
• Serve as chair of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC)
• Coordinate student job placement activities with local employers
• Coordinate with Career & Technology Education colleagues throughout the region, including curricular alignment with local high schools where appropriate

Miscellaneous

• Maintain level of expertise in field or discipline. Attend meetings and conferences for professional development, visit schools, businesses, and community organizations to research, develop, and to market programs. Maintain subject matter expert status required of a proficient instructor in Skilled Trades
• Maintain student files in compliance with all requirements of regulating bodies
• Assist supervisor with review and revision of semester schedules
• Collaborate with marketing office to help ensure accuracy and currency of program publications
• Represent the program and College in relevant local, regional, and national organizations as appropriate and determined by Skilled Trades Director
• Perform other duties as assigned in the Faculty/Staff Manual or by immediate or appropriate supervisor

Required: A minimum of five years’ work experience as a Marine or Mechanical Trades Technician, and two years providing leadership, mentorship, or instruction in a skilled trades educational setting.

Preferred: Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline; or Master’s degree in any discipline with 15 graduate hours in the field, or appropriate field certifications and/or transcripts. Related licensure/certification and/or five years of marine and mechanical trades work experience may be substituted for degree attainment. Related experience serving as a service manager preferred. Experience serving as an instructor teaching mechanical trades and manufacturer/ industry recognized certifications (i.e. Yamaha, SAE, NMEA, etc.) preferred.
