Site Manager role

Charlton House Independent School is seeking a proactive, enthusiastic and forward-thinking Site Manager to join our community. We are very proud of our school and the applicant must therefore take pride in their duties and equally project inherent pride in being a member of our community.

The successful candidate will maintain our unique school site – buildings and grounds, to the highest possible standard; proactively enhancing our facilities. They will ensure the school campus is safe, clean and well maintained for pupils, staff, parents, visitors and community use. The individual will be practical and able to adapt their skills to the needs of the school, prioritise health, safety and security at all times.

Duties will need to be carried out between the hours of 07:00 to 18:30, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year – (25 days annual holiday.) Some split shifts will be required, 07:00 to 11:00 and 14:30 to 18:30, to meet the needs of our school. As with our pupils, staff and governors, we want to invest in the applicant’s development and professional skills. Therefore, a willingness to learn or develop the necessary skills must be inherent. In return, we want the applicant to be willing to invest in becoming a member of our valued staff-body and wider community.

Main duties and responsibilities consist of (but are not exclusive to);

• Developing and managing a programme of planned and preventative maintenance;

• Manage the school site, grounds and buildings to ensure they are safe, secure and well maintained;

• Act as the main key holder for school, attending emergency callouts as necessary. Ensure the school is unlocked and locked daily (this may include opening and closing outside the core hours on occasions);

• Undertake security and safety checks, making proposals for improvements as necessary liaising with external agencies e.g. police, fire brigade etc;

• Carry out general porterage duties;

• Undertake a range of minor repairs, maintenance and redecoration within the school buildings and grounds. Be proactive in seeking out these tasks and reactive to other needs. Working within their own skill and knowledge limitations;

• Regular checking and record keeping to meet legislative Health and Safety requirements e.g. COSHH, Asbestos, Water, Fire etc. Become familiar with the School Health and Safety Policy and requirements and ensure those using the site comply with this;

• Ensure systems are in place so that all practices and emergency procedures are safe and adhere to Health and Safety requirements;

• Arrange and supervise contractors on site. In conjunction with the Head-Teacher, monitor overall performance, raising issues with contractors and overseeing specialist work;

• Take responsibility for and directly line-manage school cleaners;

• Take responsibility for stock control and ordering of cleaning / repair products; and

• Attend governors’ meetings as required to update and advise on site issues.

• Someone who has the desire to put the children and the school community at the forefront of all health, safety and security matters for the benefit of all.

Salary: £21,500 – £30,000 depending on experience
