Job Description:

This is a skilled position requiring the candidate to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in subgrade, stabilizing and gravel base preparation. This position demands professionalism and the ability to take responsibility to safely execute the work in a prompt and efficient manner and to ensure that all work completed meets the customer’s expectation of quality workmanship in safety, quality, environmental mindfulness, and site tidiness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public.
• Measure and order materials for daily requirements.
• Maintain time and material records necessary to complete daily job costing.
• Schedule equipment and manpower needs with management.
• Directly supervise, educate and train employees.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
• Adhere to all company policies and provincial regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
• Perform daily field level hazard assessments in compliance with company policies.
• Knowledge and experience in gravel base, standard and stabilized subgrade construction under concrete and asphalt.
• Ability to discuss and plan daily project procedures/goals with fellow base personnel to maximize productivity and workmanship.
• Check to make sure that equipment functions properly

Job Requirements:

• A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a base foreman or lead hand.
• Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license.
• Thorough understanding of the construction industry including the knowledge to read and understand construction drawings.
• Must be able to check grade and efficiently operate finish grader.
• Must have knowledge of compaction processes and requirements for subgrade and gravel base
• Display a professional and courteous approach with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
• Must be physically fit – repetitive bending, lifting, kneeling, walking for long periods of time.
• Problem-solving skills, timeliness, and pride in your work product are essential for success in this position.
• Working in inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
• Required to work out of town at times.
• Punctual and able to work full time, overtime, and weekends.

Salary: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
