A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a modern, innovative Council. We are looking to strengthen our Highways Service through the appointment of a Principal Finance Officer.

You will work with the Head of Business Improvement, Head of Highways and the Programme Management Office. You will manage the Highways Finance Officers to support the delivery of the Highways Service and ensure a consistent approach across the service. Day-to-day, you will liaise with budget managers and central finance to ensure monthly and quarterly reporting is undertaken accurately and efficiently. You will liaise with third party providers and foster positive relationships to ensure prompt payment and accurate forecasting. You will also seek funding opportunities, support officers to prepare bids and ensure robust monitoring and evaluation processes are followed for successful funding applications.
To join us you will have experience in a similar role, with a finance and/or project/programme management background. You are organised, AAT qualified (working towards a recognised accounting qualification or have relevant experience working with accounting systems) well versed in financial management and/or funding applications.
You can analyse statistical data, have experience of using a finance accounting system, ideally SAP and enjoy completing tasks in a complex environment. With this expertise, you’ll have the confidence to contribute and your strong communication skills will be essential along with an organised, team-focused approach.
