Job Summary

The Center for Dynamic Learning offers STEAMM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics, manufacturing) education through robust and inclusive programming designed for students in the K-12 scholastic environment. The Create, Enrich, Explore program brings this unique educational experience to the Asa Messer Elementary school in Providence, RI where anywhere between 120-150 of their student population take part.

The Science STEAMM Educator will be responsible for teaching a group of 13-15 students the fundamental skills of chess. They will be expected to follow the designated after school schedule for student arrival, snack time, program enrichment, and dismissal. This position requires someone who is well versed in science, has previous teaching experience in their field, and works well in a fast paced environment. This role reports directly to the site coordinator.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Teach different groups of 13-15 students the fundamental skills of chess
• Write and submit daily lesson plans to the site coordinators
• Promote a healthy and positive competitive spirit
• Learn and adapt to a fast paced environment
• Write daily class reports to be sent to the site coordinators within 24 hours of each class
• Maintain communication and coordination with all staff
• Create and maintain a healthy, safe, and supportive environment for the students
• Maintain a positive rapport with the students and their families
• Replay and report any student or parent concerns in a timely manner
• Reinforce the homework policy by making sure all students have homework or a book

Qualifications and Skills

• At least three years experience in related field
• At least one year experience teaching/ in an educational setting
• Adapt to on-the-fly situations

Schedule and Compensation

This is a part-time hourly position that runs for the academic school year with a potential for summer hours based on funding, up to 12.5 hours a week Monday-Friday 3:00-5:30pm at $14-16/hr.
