About the Role

The Junior Underwriter works in conjunction with our sales team, as well as broker relationships to oversee all aspects of the submission, underwriting, documentation & funding processes. This role is critical to the delivery of excellent customer service and to the overall success of the company. The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Excellent verbal & written communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and other PC applications
• Self-starter with a positive and enthusiastic approach to work
• Must be organized and have a knack for the details
• Above average pace and energy level

Role Responsibilities

• Determine merchant’s credibility and payback ability via in-depth review and verification of information
• Issue approvals or denials and set terms and rates
• Assist in resolving problems that may arise on pending contracts
• Interact with the internal sales team as needed
• Ability to recognize positive and negative trends in credit performance
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Underwrite Business Loan applications for creditworthiness in accordance with company underwriting guidelines
• Review merchant financial statements
• Provide technical and analytical guidance in gathering and analyzing financial information
• Interface with Senior Management to discuss underwriting and risk decisions and strategies
• Recommend procedures to enhance the overall performance and results of our underwriting departments

Required Experience

• BA/BS degree in a relevant field of study
• Proficient knowledge of financial statements, credit techniques, disbursement procedures and underwriting functions
• Experience creating a credit/risk model a plus
• Analytical skills and general banking and customer relationship skills
• Advanced problem-solving skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel required
• Familiarity with Quickbooks
