Bridge Engineer
Our client is looking for a Bridge Engineer to join their established Structures team in Carlisle.
The team supports infrastructure owners and operators to better manage, adapt and develop their assets to address the engineering and technological challenges of modern transport infrastructure and delivers the infrastructure that connects people, places, and supports thriving economies.
The role offers a Structures Engineer an operational role with clear career development within the organisation. Key responsibilities will involve contributing to the development and implementation of projects and programmes, supporting project delivery of all forms and types of highway structures.
Responsibilities of the role:
·Undertaking feasibility studies including preparing reports, cost estimates, investigating problems and identifying options
·Taking a participant or lead role in the design, inspection or assessment of major civil engineering structures and bridges
·Designing projects in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridgeworks and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works
·Preparing schemes for tender typically using the NEC3/4 Forms of Contract
·Able to assist in preparing fee estimates and bid work
·Assisting with the commercial and financial control of your project
·To demonstrate excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing at a general and technical level
·Ensuring compliance of the team’s work with a high regard to Health and Safety and the application of the CDM Regulations and other legislation
·Supervising graduate engineers and technicians
Requirements of the role:
·A Bachelors or master’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or a related subject accredited by the Engineering Council. Ideally you will be working toward achieving Chartered Member status of the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE) or Institution of Structural Engineers (CEng IStructE) or have recently achieved that membership status.
·A minimum of 2 years post-graduation experience in the design of all aspects of highways and civil engineering design and construction
·A knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards, and procedures. A working knowledge of standard highway and civil engineering specifications, conditions of contract and methods of measurement
·Working knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidelines including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British and European Standards, Eurocodes, and Codes of Practice
