Purpose and summary of job: To create and maintain and continue to develop a positive safeguarding culture as part of the safeguarding and positive behaviour support team. At all times demonstrating an understanding and recognition of the responsibilities outlined within KCSIE 2020 and Working Together to Safeguard Children. The role includes ensuring quality recording reporting and supporting the process of early identifications of patterns, trends and staff training needs.
The role will involve guiding and delivering staff training. To work as part of a team to provide supervision, support and guidance to pupils by removing barriers to learning, in order to promote effective participation, enhance individual learning and raise aspirations as well as improve the SEMH of pupils and to build resilience in times of stress. This will be achieved through the delivery of targeted programmes including THRIVE. Duties and responsibilities • To support the Designated Safeguarding Lead in promoting outstanding practice for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
This not only provides the repeated experiences that will grow different neural pathways but it also, importantly, teaches the child some different ways to express strong emotions in a safe way • Deliver sessions 1:1 in small groups and with small classes of pupils (Primary or Secondary). • Using a positive, empathic relationship to provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning/behaviour and attendance and consequences of their actions. • To maintain positive professional relationships with all members of staff. • To undertake additional duties as required, commensurate with the level of the job.
Working with Staff and other Agencies • Attend weekly Safeguarding meetings of DDSLs to ensure efficient management of all safeguarding procedures. This will include Home Managers and other senior leads within education and care. • Inform and liaise with the Principal, Named Designated Safeguarding Lead and Regional Leads of safeguarding issues, especially ongoing enquiries under Section 47 of the Children Act 1989, and of active police investigations • Liaise with onsite MDT to assess risk associated with risky behaviours and minimise impact of incidents of abuse within the setting. Work collaboratively to make recommendations where additional support or assessment may be required (i.e.
need for forensic risk assessment etc) • Promote the development of positive interagency working, establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the appropriate school staff, to safeguard and support the achievement and progress of pupils and provide information and reports in support of multi-agency meetings as required • Work alongside all of the staff within school setting to promote and to share good practice. • Support with the maintaining and development of Individual Risk Assessments • Deliver staff training in order to implement and embed outstanding practice in safeguarding and positive behavioural approaches, including the Thrive model across the school. • Carry out and support staff to carry out assessments and implement action plans, both whole class and individual and demonstrate progress • Support parents in understanding and meeting the social, emotional and physical needs of their children alongside other professionals within the school • Work with school leaders to ensure assessments are carried out, and analysed to best inform school improvement and planning • Work with curriculum leads to embed Thrive within the curriculum (planning and delivery remains the responsibility of the teacher). Training • Commitment to ensuring a level of up to date safeguarding training commensurate to your role and responsibilities as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding and Behaviour Support Lead • Commit to training to enable the maintenance of a Thrive Practitioner and equivalent behavioural approach models • Obtain access to and prepare relevant resources • Work with the DSL/BSL to prepare and deliver training, model approaches and coach others • Commit to ongoing Professional Development Raise awareness Supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead: – • ensure the school’s child protection policies are known, understood and used appropriately.
Where they are not, ensure strategies for learning are established • in the preparation of the Report to termly Governance Board to ensure they are aware of key issues and trends impacting on the service. • to ensure the school child protection policy is reviewed annually (as a minimum) and the procedures and implementation are updated and reviewed regularly • ensure the safeguarding policy is available and easily accessible to everyone in the school community • ensure that parents have read the safeguarding policy, and are aware that referrals about suspected abuse or neglect may be made, and the role of the school in this • link with the local safeguarding children board (LSCP) to make sure staff are aware of training opportunities and the latest local policies on safeguarding • Work with other schools to audit processes, provide support and share good practice • Be alert to the specific needs of children in need, those with special educational needs and young carers • Encourage a culture of listening to children among all staff, ensuring that children’s feelings are heard where the school puts measures in place to support and protect them • Offer support and challenge in relation to positive behaviour support approaches Supporting the work of Southlands within Cambian • Develop strong, positive relationships with Cambian colleagues, contribute to collaborative work across Cambian schools and support other staff in participating in work, in order to develop and share best practice. • Support in the development of active learning and manage the school trips calendar Administrative and Technical Skills • The ability to be well organised and efficient and work well under pressure with a demonstrable ability to organise and manage projects to defined outcomes, using relevant analytical and IT skills. • The ability to meet deadlines Deputise Deputise for the DSL as required Other Undertake such professional duties which may be reasonably requested by either the Principal, Head of Education, Designated Safeguarding Lead or Cambian in accordance with the professional expectations of the role
