Title: Sustainability Education Project Officer, Permanent – Full-time Role, 35 hours per week


Salary Range: $81496.69 to $94712.66 per annum + super (subject to skills and experiences)

Northern Beaches Council was created in 2016 through the three councils of Manly, Pittwater and Warringah coming together to deliver the highest quality services to the community. Exciting new infrastructure projects and community programs have quickly demonstrated the positive impact the new council is having.


Role Purpose
The role of the Sustainability Education Projects Officer is to drive community sustainability outcomes in the Northern Beaches through the development, implementation and evaluation of education for sustainability, community engagement and behaviour change programs. The role is also expected to provide significant support to the Manager and the Environment and Climate Change Business Unit. The range of tasks includes strategic management planning, scoping proposing and implementing projects and events, writing and administering contracts, reviewing budgets and coordinating consultants. The role is focused on achieving sustainable behaviours and environmental awareness across key sections of the local community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement relevant Project Management principles according to Northern Beaches Council guidelines and standards (including WH&S, Risk Assessment and communications planning) and ensure effective and timely delivery of all components of agreed projects and programs
  • Monitor progress of project(s) and manage output according to project plan’s requirements and using appropriate project management tools and methodologies
  • Pro-actively monitor, manage and meet the allocated budget, including accurate forecasting (phasing)
  • Liaise with, and provide assistance and advice to, all stakeholders (including relevant team members, Councillors, Council Staff, State Government Departments and Agencies, consultants, user groups, etc.) on a range of project-specific matters
  • Report on overall project progress to relevant senior management and/or funding bodies as required and specified in project plan
