Norfolk Island is an external territory of Australia located in the Pacific Ocean approximately 1,400km directly east of Australia’s Evans Head. The Island has a total area of 35 km² and is home to around 1,800 people. Norfolk Island has many historic and cultural precincts and visited by around 30,000 people annually. Norfolk Island Regional Council (NIRC) provides traditional local government services to its community and visitors, as well as running commercial entities such as Telecom, the power station, the international airport, fire and emergency services and the liquor bond store. Council also operates under a service delivery agreement State and Commonwealth functions such as Registry and the Courts; and Ports and ship to shore cargo transfer.

Opportunities to live and work in an idyllic location such as Norfolk Island are rare. An opportunity now exists for a suitably experienced and qualified person to join the Council in critical senior management role.

The Manager Corporate and Finance reports to the General Manager and leads a team of professional, technical, and administrative staff providing a diverse range of revenue, finance and management accounting services, technology, Communications and governance advice across NI, including:

• The timely and accurate maintenance and overall integrity of Council’s finances and property portfolio.
• The timely preparation of Council’s budget, provision of a high-quality management accounting function to all Council cost centres.
• Achieving Council’s strategic revenue objectives in relation to rating, budgets, expenditure, capital works, alternative revenue streams and debt reduction.
• Ensuring that the technology and information needs of NIRC are met within budget constraints including oversight of the operation of the Island telecommunications networks for the whole community.
• Ensuring that the purchasing and logistics functions of Council are efficient and cost-effective.

To succeed in this role, you will be degreed qualified, have at least 5-years successful experience in a similar role. Your willingness and strong commitment to ensuring your portfolios are operating to a high standard and delivering the strategic and operational outcomes and objectives of the council in an efficient, cost effective manner will be essential. You will take your staff with you on the journey of cultural change and business process improvement.
