About the role

Do you have a passion for accounting and financial management? Does leading and motivating a team to deliver a diverse range of quality financial services to our various business areas sound interesting to you? We are looking for an appropriately qualified and experienced professional to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Manager Finance & Systems, the position of Financial Accountant is responsible for providing a high level of assistance in the effective financial management of Council through overseeing Council’s accounting functions and the work of finance staff. Being familiar with Local Government Accounting Standards and experience in audit and preparation of financial statements will be a huge advantage for early success in the role. You will need to have strong collaboration and engagement skills to build relationships with internal business managers and external financial consultants . To be considered for this position you will need to:

  (1) Outline your experience in accounting roles in mid to large organisations and experience in the use of computerised Financial Information Systems

  (2) Provide an experience that demonstrates your ability to manage an effective team under competing priorities and deadlines. What were the challenges and results?

  (3) What experience have you had in the application of accounting standards and methodologies to business accounts and how did you ensure business processes were updated to meet the new reporting / compliance requirements?

This position is located at Council’s Grafton office, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.
