The Learning & Teaching Academy is looking for an experienced education developer to join its growing team.

The Education Developer will support the enhancement of learning, teaching and the student learning experience at Cardiff University through the development and delivery of activities, initiatives and resources designed to support curriculum review and (re) design.

The postholder(s) will contribute directly to programme design alongside academic colleagues, as well as providing specialist advice and consultancy to the academic community. The role will involve working in partnership with schools and programme teams and in collaboration with specialist colleagues from the Learning and Teaching Academy as well as other professional departments to support curriculum transformation across Cardiff University.

The postholder(s) will provide specialist advice and consultancy to Senior Education Developers and the academic community. The role will include designing and delivering continuing professional development events and resources across a range of learning and teaching/curricula-related themes to support schools and programme teams to develop excellent quality, student-centred, inclusive and engaging curricula that is responsive to student feedback.

This is a full-time, open-ended position.

Salary: £34,304 – £40,927 per annum (Grade 6), appointments will usually be at the bottom of the grade.

• Make direct contributions to programme design, by working with academic departments and individuals within schools. Provide professional advice and guidance on learning and teaching and curricula-related issues to senior colleagues and the wider academic community, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action, ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood
• Play an active role in disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teaching and learning communities, working/project groups and networks to support the delivery of strategic priorities, respond to the student voice and ensure that all students at Cardiff have an excellent learning experience. This will involve leading on areas of expertise, where appropriate.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of a suite of professional development events, workshops, resources and other education development activities for Cardiff University staff including the provision of bespoke support for Schools and programme teams, where appropriate.
• Take responsibility for resolving curriculum design challenges independently, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action.
• Investigate and analyse specific areas for enhancement within learning and teaching, creating recommendation reports, underpinned by best practice in education development.
• Ensure that the provision of Education Development support is delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements
• Support Senior Education Developers and academic Schools to plan, deliver and implement academic development and curriculum enhancement programmes, projects and initiatives in line with Cardiff University’s strategic priorities.
• Raise the profile of excellence in learning and teaching internally and externally by working with the wider Learning and Teaching academy team to plan and implement related communications such as blogs and case studies, and events such as conferences.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s College, Schools and professional service departments and outside bodies, as required, to ensure role objectives are met.
• Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve departmental objectives
• Plan and deliver specific small scale projects, co-ordinating and supervising project teams created as needed. Monitor and evaluate the impact of projects, workshops and resources on educational practices and the student learning experience, using findings to proactively change the delivery according to the needs of key stakeholders.
• Undertake personal and professional development to enhance performance, keeping abreast of sector developments and engaging in scholarship of teaching and learning in collaboration with colleagues inside or outside the University, to support and enhance academic practice and curriculum development across the University and the higher education sector.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Education

• Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience, Fellowship of Advance HE, or equivalent qualification or experience with the ability to achieve Fellowship of Advance HE within a year of appointment.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Substantial experience of supporting academics to enhance the student educational experience through learning, teaching and curriculum (re)development.
• Able to demonstrate professional knowledge in education/curriculum development, to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers, with an understanding of the current landscape within the UK and Welsh higher education sectors.
• Experience of planning, designing and delivering professional development workshops, events and resources across a range of learning and teaching themes.
• Experience supporting learning, teaching and assessment for delivery across a variety of contexts (e.g., blended learning, online learning, hybrid, work-based learning), demonstrating inclusive practice and effective use of technology enhanced learning.

Customer Service, Communication and Team Working

• Evidence of ability to assimilate, analyse and communicate complex information relating to learning, teaching and the student experience in a clear, effective, tactful and accurate manner appropriate to the audience, in both oral and written form, including to non-specialist audiences.
• Proven ability to develop network in order to contribute to long term developments and evidence of ability to explore the needs of academic staff and students across a range of disciplines and to adapt advice, guidance or support offering accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
• Evidence of strong interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to work with staff and students; to work on own initiative as well as within a team; to build and maintain networks and to ensure dissemination of information.

Planning, Analysis and Problem solving

• Evidence of ability to access and analyse a range of data from different information sources, to anticipate and resolve problems using initiative and creativity and identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions.
• Evidence of ability to undertake and deliver specific projects and supervise short term requirements and ability to plan, prioritise and organise own work, and to take responsibility for operational planning and implementation of project activities.

Desirable Criteria

• Postgraduate/Professional qualification in learning and teaching.
• Fellowship/Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
• Fluency in Welsh, written and oral
• Experience working with a professional body.
