About The Role
As Director Finance and Commercial Services – reporting directly to the General Manager – you will lead a significant Directorate in the delivery of the following functions:

• Finance
• Procurement
• Property Leasing
• Property Development
• Commercial Services
• Strategic Asset Management
• Business Unit Services

Key responsibilities will include:

• The effective and efficient functioning of Council’s Finance and Accounting function comprising development and management of Council’s budget, transactional accounting, business support, insurance, and project accounting
• Providing leadership for ongoing procurement reform and performance improvement to ensure best practice standards are in operation across council and that an active approach to risk management and a strong focus on probity are employed
• Effective and efficient management of Council’s property portfolio incorporating the development of the strategic framework for council’s property assets, identifying and planning for land acquisition and development opportunities
• Adopting a commercial approach to the strategic management of council’s property portfolio in securing positive returns on investment on behalf of the community. This approach is to include the implementation of commercial opportunities across the organisation that improves Council’s revenue

Additionally, as a member of the Executive team you will be expected to proactively contribute to the achievement of Council’s vision, values, and corporate goals.

About You
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual who has highly developed leadership abilities, is pro-active and is firmly focused on outcomes. To be successful in this role It is expected that you will have extensive executive level leadership experience in financial management, long term financial planning and financial sustainability.

It is further expected that the successful applicant will hold relevant tertiary qualifications together with a membership of a professional association such as CPA Australia.

Highly developed communication and advocacy skills are essential as is the ability to develop effective partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholder groups.
