About Canva’s Summer Internship Program

The Internship is a 12-week program that runs from the first week of December to the last week of February. As an Infrastructure Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn from engineers who have worked with the likes of Google, JetBrains, Yandex, Atlassian, Amazon, Facebook, and other popular technology houses from all over the world. You will get the opportunity to learn and apply best-practice software engineering, focused on strong software engineering fundamentals and pragmatism.

The Infrastructure Supergroup’s mission is to make complex technology simple for Canvanauts by building foundational products that will seamlessly propel Canva to the next level of growth. We are taking our services into the next generation with cutting edge tech to be reliable, secure and scalable with the goal to make it simple for engineers to create, innovate without having to worry about the extras. As Infrastructure has the most diverse engineering skillset, you will get the chance to peer into different disciplines and figure out where you may want to steer your career!

We’ll pair you with a mentor and assign a buddy who will guide and ensure your success every step of the way, and of course, the rest of your teammates and Internship Program Coordinators will be there to support you, too. It’s a team effort!

You’ll be part of a welcoming community of interns that take pride in our culture of being good humans and empowering each other to achieve our crazy big goals—socials like boba/coffee/gelato run, movie nights, pizza/pasta making and the occasional karaoke night are expected.

How We Hire

Once we’ve reviewed and screened your application, the first step will be a coding test sent to your email. The next stage will be an interview with our recruitment team and lastly, a final interview with our software engineers! We will provide you with feedback at every stage of the process.

• Are a penultimate-year student based in Australia (citizen, PR, international student), or New Zealand (citizen).
• Are comfortable coding in Python, Go or Java
• Have knowledge of cloud architecture concepts and/or Infrastructure-as-Code
• Are familiar with version control concepts (we’re using Git!)
• Are familiar with different testing principles
• Have strong Computer Science and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) Fundamentals
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills
• Have the desire to learn and grow as a technologist in the infrastructure space
• Are able to commit to the 12-week, full-time summer program from early December 2022 to late February 2023. We can provide some flexibility for dates that might overlap with university timelines.
• Please note that unfortunately, Canva does not sponsor immigration visas for internships at this time.
