About Us

Allan Cantor opened the first Cantor’s Driving School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1976. This father of four was a History Teacher and Disciplinarian at Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia. He began teaching students how to drive part-time and on the weekends. Soon, he had taught nearly every teen in the area how to drive. Allan was the best driving instructor around. He was known for his jovial personality and relatability with his students. A stop off to grab a famous Philadelphia cheesesteak during a lesson was not out of the question – and something his students loved about him. Of course it was the 1970s and times were different then, but Cantor’s Driving School has always been about Family, Community, and Safety. As years went by, Cantor’s Driving School grew into the neighboring Philadelphia suburbs. And as his children grew, his youngest son Frank joined the family business. Learning the ins-and-outs of being a great driving instructor from his father, Frank was able to expand Cantor’s Driving School into 5 states – Pennsylvania, Florida, Nevada, Arizona, and California. Today, Frank Cantor owns and operates Cantor’s Driving School with his wife, Cheri, continuing the tradition of a family-owned and operated business. They are committed to teaching the pillars of safe driving to their students – Respect for the Road, Respect for Other Drivers, and Awareness of Outside Distractions.

About This Role

As a Driving Instructor with Cantor’s Driving School you will be teaching the drivers of tomorrow. In a company-provided vehicle, you will educate and advise students while teaching them the fundamentals of operating a car behind the wheel. You will be responsible for planning and delivering customized lessons that promote students’ theoretical and applied driving skills. Driving instructors also communicate with students to determine which of their skills require further development.

We’ll assist you in obtaining the state-required driving instructor certification through our paid training program. All of our lessons are taught in a Cantor’s Car with GPS tracking, instructor brake, instructor rear view mirror for the safety of you and your student. Our driving instructors enjoy tailoring their own schedules, keeping in mind the majority of the demand for driving lessons is in the afternoons and weekends as most of our students are on a school schedule. A typical day could consist of two or three, two-hour lessons with paid travel time included.

More Details:

• $26.00 Per Hour Teaching Time (all driving lessons are two hours)
• $15.00 Per Hour Travel Time (we allot one hour in-between each driving lesson)
• $15.00 Per Hour for training
• We give driving lessons 7 days a week, Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday-Sunday 9am-5pm
• We pick up and drop off students at home, school, work, etc
• Take home driving school training car
• Company credit card provided for fuel, supplies, vehicle maintenance
• Instructor is covered under the company’s commercial car insurance
• Must speak English, speak clearly and well (Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not mandatory

Responsibilities:

• Teaching practical skills related to all aspects of driving
• Providing instruction on the rules of the road
• Helping students to develop confidence in their driving skills
• Gaining control of the vehicle during emergency situations
• Documenting and reporting on students’ progress
• Attending team meetings/dinners

Qualifications:

• A genuine passion for helping people learn
• Ability to remain calm in all learning environment
• A clean, valid California State Driver’s License
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Ability to pass a background check
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Ability to give clear instruction, coach, communicate effectively to others
• Ability to focus for extended periods of time
• Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time in a vehicle
• Must be able to see and hear during all weather conditions
• Must be able to work 3 – 6 days a week consecutively/in a row
