Salary Range: $3,775 – $6,960/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; temporary position, expires on or before one year from the date of hire; may be extended; may become permanent; Scheduled work hours will be adjusted to meet operational needs of the University Library and Department including occasional early mornings, late evenings and weekend hours; non-exempt classification.
Essential Functions: The University Library at Cal State LA is a 317,000 square foot facility that annually welcomes more than 1.65 million visitors and has a total seating capacity 2,200. The library maintains a physical collection of more than 700,000 items, provides access to over 200 public computers and annually hosts over 50 online and in-person exhibits, programs and events. The Operations and User Experience/Services Team within the library is comprised of 11 full-time staff and 25 part-time student employees who oversee circulation, reserves, collection maintenance, interlibrary loan, and facilities. Reporting to the Head of Operations and User Experience/Services, the Library Services Desk Coordinator will ensure that the library’s Service Desk operations run smoothly, consistently providing a high-level service and helps maintain an environment conducive to learning. The incumbent will suggest and implement data-driven changes which will streamline operations and make the user experience for library patrons more efficient; hire and lead student employees who work at the Library Service Desk; serve as a resource for library personnel on use of the library’s unified library management system’s circulation and fulfillment modules; investigate and respond to patron inquiries and complaints regarding all aspects of circulation services; lead the development of circulation procedures documentation; and work regularly at the Library Service Desk providing excellent customer service. The incumbent may also be responsible for opening and closing the library building, based on operational need. The Library Service Desk Coordinator will act as a member of the Operations & User Experience/Services team and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Four years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience using circulation and fulfillment functions/modules in a Unified Library Management System (ULMS) and an understanding of library circulation operations, bibliographic and item records, and patron databases. The incumbent must have demonstrated commitment to public services and improving the user experience. The incumbent must have excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills with proven experience resolving issues raised by library patrons or customers. The incumbent must have the ability to balance competing priorities and improve workflows and work creatively and effectively both independently and as a member of the Operations and User Experience/ Services Team. The incumbent must have proficiency with standard office software (MS Office and web applications) and commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience working in academic library. and with the Alma ULMS and/or SpringShare library software. Supervisory/Lead experience.
