The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures (MLL) at
California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a
tenure‐track Assistant Professor position in TESOL with appointment
to begin Fall 2023.

who can contribute to this goal through their teaching, research,
advising, and other activities are encouraged to identify their
strengths and experiences in this area. Individuals advancing the
University’s strategic diversity goals and those from groups whose
underrepresentation in the American professoriate has been severe
and longstanding are particularly encouraged to apply.
Position
CSUF faculty are committed
teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life
for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually
mentored projects.
Duties include: teaching courses in the MS TESOL and Undergraduate
TESOL Certificate Program, but primarily upper-division and
graduate-level courses in L2 Methodology, Practicum, Pronunciation,
Grammar, and Second Language Acquisition; and producing research
commensurate with the requirements for tenure in their area of
expertise. Faculty generally teach 3 classes per semester. A
reduced teaching load is provided for the first two years. The
successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and
participate in the life and development of the department, advise
students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader
university and disciplinary communities. Candidates must provide
evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an
interdisciplinary and student-centered environment.

of the complex phenomenon of human communication, a process that

Students interested in developing language and cultural competence
find a variety of programs in Modern Languages & Literatures.
Programs are designed for those who wish to pursue more advanced
studies of language and literatures, as well as for the growing
number of people who find the ability to communicate in other
languages and sensitivity to other cultures important components of
career preparation in the United States and abroad. Our programs
help to prepare students for careers in education, government,
non-profit organizations, social services, translation services,
assessment, literature, and international business.
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is engaged in
several student retention projects and high-impact practices to
support student graduation and success such as field research
projects, collaborative faculty-student research; student
participation in professional meetings; theater groups; mentoring
of underrepresented graduate students, among others. We seek a
colleague that can build off these efforts and contribute
innovative practices and strategies for further promoting student
success.

strength of the applicant pool.
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is
subject to budgetary authorization and any California State
University System faculty contract increases. Summer research
grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated
