Job Title: Highways Engineer
Location: Edinburgh/Glasgow
Salary: £34,000 to £38,000

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work with an international consultancy from their Scotland offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow. They are offering a huge range of highways engineering schemes with National Highways, D&B Contractors, Scotland Excel Local Authority Framework and Transport Scotland.

You will be given excellent opportunities in detailed design using Civil 3D, Bentley MX and drainage software ‘MicroDrainage’ within a large and supportive team that can offer excellent training schemes with the ICE and CIHT.

Highways Engineer Responsibilities:

• Being responsible for elements of the preliminary and detailed design; e.g. drawings, specifications, reports and calculations etc, to achieve the optimum solution for the project.
• Working in close collaboration with our team and other disciplines and having an appreciation of their role.
• Providing technical guidance and support to our colleagues and assist, where practicable, in mentoring and development.
• Ensuring deliverables are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
• Ensuring that solutions meet client needs and expectations are met/exceeded.
• Liaising with our clients and contractors and supervising works on site when required.
• Ensuring that all work is carried out to the Company’s IMS, and current H&S legislation requirements.

Highways Engineer Requirements

• A relevant degree and be working towards a recognised professional qualification.
• Experience of undertaking highway geometric design in accordance with the DMRB, and desirably Manual for Streets, using Bentley MX or Civils 3D.
• Strong experience of CAD software packages (e.g. AutoCAD) and desirably PDS Sign and Line.
• A good all round understanding of quality management systems and processes, financial project management systems, business and commercial issues.
• A sound understanding of highway design to meet the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and to ensure Safety by Design best practices are achieved.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
