Burley Inclusive have an urgent opening for a Learning Support role. We are looking for someone who comes from a mental health support background and or education/school/GCSE experience.

Requirements

· Mental health support background

. Education/school/GCSE experience.

· Full driving licence (not provisional) and own transport (for travel across N. Somerset and Bristol).

Desirable

· Experience of supporting persons with learning disabilities, autism and/or physical disabilities.

· Experience of working with persons with epilepsy.

· Experience of working in a formal education setting.

The Role

Our learning support staff deliver our core skill curriculum of person-centred, skills-based education in the field, helping support our learners to undertake their chosen activities, with the eventual goal of enabling them to become more independent in the things they wish to do. You will work closely with a variety of clients and liaise with their personal tutors and keyworkers to identify strategies that assist in overcoming their disabilities, and provide feedback to the rest of the team regarding their progress.

Our curriculum is studied in learners’ homes and in their chosen community settings, typically on a 1:1 basis, and covers a range of skills related to their health and wellbeing, social engagements, housekeeping skills and employment prospects. Learners’ timetables typically include a range of enjoyable days out, entertainment interests and therapeutic projects, and you will support their learning in all of these settings, broadening their horizons and expanding their opportunities. Throughout the COVID pandemic we have successfully implemented a variety of online approaches to our work, including online 1:1 sessions, Skype social groups and virtual activities on our dedicated Minecraft server.

We select staff who are confident in their abilities, friendly and personable, and who can work independently and learn under their own initiative. Your role will involve meeting clients with a range of learning disabilities, driving them between locations within the boundaries of North Somerset and Bristol, assisting them to undertake their chosen activities, develop their communication skills, help them develop their own confidence and reduce their reliance on you over time.

Training & Career Development

Shadowing and training in our methodologies and documentation will be provided, and you will be asked to complete our training handbook during your induction period, which covers key aspects of working with persons with learning disabilities, safeguarding, health and safety, principles of teaching and how we handle our paperwork, with regular one-to-one supervisions for ongoing guidance and support.
