Established in 2003, 2BU-Somerset provides a specialist support service serving the needs of young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ+) people across Somerset.

The Open Mental Health programme aims to work with young adults aged 16-25 years old who are transitioning out of children’s mental health services, or don’t meet the threshold for support with their mental health. The project will support young adults to foster a more positive view of themselves, raise aspirations and provide safe, fun and purposeful environments for them to feel more independent and empowered around their own mental health and engage positively in their communities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Peer Mentor for 2BU Somerset you will be supporting young adults who are looking to have positive conversations about their sexual orientation or gender identity. This diverse and challenging role requires someone who is passionate about working in LGBTQ+ communities. You will identify and meet the needs of LGBTQ+ young adults in a range of settings across the county.
Key to the success of the project is employing a peer mentor who has the ability to engage with young adults. As a peer mentor you will draw on your own life experience in offering support to the young adults you work with. You will support these young adults to grow their confidence and self-esteem as well as develop positive social networks through community groups and through the mentoring, understand their worth and grow their aspiration.
This diverse and challenging role requires someone who is passionate about youth work in LGBTQ+ communities. 2BU offer a supportive environment, training, regular supervision and appraisal.
We expect to invite shortlisted candidates for an interview in Taunton on Monday 12th September between 4.30-8.30pm. If selected for interview, we will also ask you to make a short presentation (5 mins) on the day in which we would like you to address the statement:

On the day, the interview process will be in two stages:
· Stage 1 – A formal interview with the 2BU Team.
· Stage 2 – An interview organised by young people attending 2BU which includes your short 5-minute presentation.
