About this role
BT are recruiting for a Contract Accounting Finance Specialist to join the organisation on a permanent basis located from either one of smart working locations Belfast, Bristol or Birmingham.

This role requires someone to act as the finance lead on the £39m DSM (Defence Service Management) Platform and oversee the transition to from capex build to opex in life operation. This role would also involve acting as the contract accountant for the above secret classification contract B (£7m turnover annually), responsible for any contract financial reporting as well as contributing to the contracts quarterly CGR (Contract Governance Review). In addition, the role would offer ownership of mod other which will consist of being the finance lead on ad hoc projects of varying size.

Please note successful candidate will undergo Security clearance.

Key responsibilities

  • Finance Lead for the Blackstar contract, DSM and mod other – driving profitable change for the short, medium, and long term
  • Ownership of contract reporting with responsibility for; month end procedures reporting for P&L and balance sheet, driving cost transformation initiatives to maximise bottom line, supporting business managers on pricing/ change controls
  • Focus on the following key areas: Planning, Budgeting, Cost Transformation, Process Improvements, Reporting, Financial Controls and Risk Management
  • Responsible for maintaining accounts and preparing financial statements in accordance with accounting standards. To maintain financial integrity at all times and being able to support balances and identify risks and opportunities
  • Lead, support and provide analysis to assist projects linked to the delivery of the MTP, including managing the governance for Capex investment and approval
  • Ensure SOX compliance and strong governance
Key skills required

  • Professional Accountancy Qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA etc)
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong commercial awareness
  • Robust spreadsheet skills (Excel)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Takes ownership for and delivers results
  • Strong stakeholder management; the ability to manage a range of stakeholders both internally and externally up to and including finance director level, and the resilience to challenge them
  • Ability to identify and evaluate commercial and financial risk, and to take steps to mitigate risks and/ or to drive value add
  • Demonstrate creative thinking and innovation with an ability to convey the complex in a simple and meaningful manner
  • Constantly challenging the status quo; continually seeks out best practice with regards to financial reporting policy and practice, ensuring consistent accounting policy and treatment
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and responsibility
