Founded by two experienced longtime educators, Brooklyn Independent opened its doors to its inaugural 6th grade cohort in fall 2019. Brooklyn Independent will double in size in the 2021-2022 school year, serving over eighty 6th -8th grade students. Our small school environment prioritizes a student body and community of educators and families who prioritize learning boldly, growing fiercely, and impacting others.

POSITION SUMMARY

Brooklyn Independent seeks a middle school Spanish teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. As a start-up school, our most successful teachers demonstrate flexibility and strong willingness to participate and contribute in efforts beyond the classroom.

The Spanish teacher will create and teach rigorous, engaging lessons and have a willingness to implement hands-on application Spanish projects. The Spanish teacher will report directly to the Co-Heads of School.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Spanish teacher will teach between two to four periods of Spanish on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:45 – 12:45.

• Deep passion for Spanish and expertise in curriculum design
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Must have one year of teaching experience
• Ability to create and implement projects in class
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to maintain strong, professional relationships in an environment where listening and feedback are highly valued
• Ability to be flexible, take initiative, and be adaptive to the demands of a start-up school
• Commitment to communicate effectively and regularly with students and parents about progress

COMPENSATION

• The Spanish Teacher will be paid $55 – $70 per class (4-8 classes per week) based on education and experience.
