We are a leading, family-owned, tutoring & microschool company for ages 6-18.

We are now teaching 1000+ students across the United States and have just launched our Online Microschool.

The education space is changing, and our students need us to stay ahead of the game.

We must provide them with skills to thrive in the 21st Century -including digital literacy, global citizenship, and entrepreneurship.

So we’re not taking a traditional approach, and we’re not looking for traditional thinkers. Our Microschool enables learners to discover and deepen their passions by helping them connect with like-minded peers nationwide.

Students join Brilliant Grades to work on projects alongside their peers, share their work, give and receive feedback, inspire each other, and participate in live experiences together.

We want to help the next generation of kids be more ambitious, more creative, and learn to think for themselves.

We are looking for a committed Instructional Designer to help design standards-aligned learning experiences for our K-8 classrooms.

Our microschools’ daily class schedule includes 3hrs of live online instruction (through Zoom) and 3hrs of independent study. We have an existing body of materials that teachers use, but they need to be enhanced, improved and better utilized in our microschools.

Responsibilities

• Observe classrooms and talk to teachers to detect curriculum design needs.
• Design learning experiences for live sessions as well as our asynchronous independent study periods.
• Compile exciting projects, writing prompts, challenges, mysteries, learning expeditions.
• Create frameworks and guidance for our teachers to use their existing materials and adaptive learning software.
• Generate student activities that are light on content and heavy on student-led, active learning (tasks that require research, writing, collaboration, rubrics, graphic organizers, etc.).
• Help us adapt materials so that they are age-appropriate and mastery-based, to be used in mixed-age classrooms.
• You will select formative assessment checks and exit tickets that help our teachers check for understanding.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be an incredible communicator that has a passion for designing lesson plans and building relationships with fellow teachers.

The ideal candidate will also have:

• A degree in teaching with a certificate in education
• Proven experience as a curriculum designer
• Prior experience in a mastery-based or multi-age classroom
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Great experience with online teaching techniques (EdTech tools, advanced Zoom settings, flipped classroom techniques)
