The Safer Communities Team is seeking to recruit an exceptional candidate to support schools and other educational providers within Brighton & Hove to deliver ‘Prevent’ activity in order to increase young people’s resilience to terrorism.

About the role

The education sector has a vital role to play in the successful delivery of ‘Prevent’, part of the UK Government’s Counter Terrorism Strategy. ‘Prevent’ strategy aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. We need to respond to tackle all forms of extremism, including both, far right threats and Al Qaida / Daesh inspired threats.

The Prevent Education Officer (PEO) is a high-profile role. We are seeking a versatile and resilient individual with prior experience in the education sector. You will be a self-starter with an aptitude for sustained drive and delivering outcomes. The post holder will identify vulnerabilities and risks, deliver training and capacity building, build and maintain a network of contacts to improve coordination of Prevent activity amongst local education settings. Work with schools to increase their compliance with the Prevent duty, help shape local strategy and interventions to strengthen pupils, institutions and communities resilience to all forms of extremism.

You will need to have:

• Excellent Communication skills and the ability to negotiate effectively to achieve successful outcomes.
• Business planning skills with ability to identify and assess risks, manage change and make long term plans.
• Ability and skills to engage a range of partners and communities, promote trust and confidence to challenge extremist ideologies and develop resilience
• Manage projects and competing priorities in a range of settings.
• A high level of political awareness and link strategies for continuous improvement with the drive to achieve national, corporate and departmental standards and goals.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
