Seeking: Autism tutor for non-verbal student – Greenwich (25 hrs/week)

The role

Bright Heart Education’s tuition agency (an employment business) is urgently seeking a nurturing and experienced tutor to provide one-to-one support for a 16 year old male student with ASC (non-verbal). This role will be supported by a mentor/support person (see other job) for the student during academic tutoring sessions and during activities outside the student’s home / tuition centre. Activities will be informed by the boy’s EHCP, OT report and psychology reports, as part of an overall therapeutic approach. Successful candidates will be provided with further information and guidelines on the Bright Heart Approach and relevant training for working with SEN students.

· Passion for working with students with ASC, including those with more complex needs incl. non-verbal and with assistive technologies

· Training and experience working with autistic students indoors and outdoors

· An understanding of the social, emotional and mental health requirements of neurodiverse students

· Ability to engage and motivate students

· Daytime availability

· To be caring, patient and empathetic

· To be professional and diligent

Benefits of the role

You will be working as a self-employed, part-time tutor, so you will be free to choose which clients / students you wish to provide tuition to (although we prefer tutors who have 80 hours of tutoring availability over a 12-month period). Bright Heart provides its tutors with opportunities for professional development.

Currently we have a role requiring up to 25 hrs/week of in-person tutoring (to be built up gradually) in Greenwich. Candidates must ensure a long-term commitment with the role.

Key qualifications

All candidates must have the right to work in the UK and will be required to have a current Enhanced DBS certificate before commencing any tutoring assignments (we can apply on behalf of a candidate if not currently held). Candidates will also be required to provide us with 2 independent references with one of them preferably tutoring/teaching related.

In addition, candidates should have:

· At least 12 months of tutoring / teaching experience with students with ASC in the UK, including with non-verbal students and assistive technologies (preference)

· Excellent spoken and written English

· Good subject knowledge and a passion for teaching
